Student answer (Band 5.5)

The time period of week in which the employees do their work should be minimum and the leaves given to employees should be more leading to a longer weekend. In this essay I will discuss both sides and then give my point of view.

We are currently living in 21st century where everything is moving on a fast pace and nobody has any time to give to themselves or enjoy their own life as everyone is busy doing their own work and meeting both ends meet.In contemporary world, working week is usually longer, a person works 6 days a week and only gets one Sunday to take rest which is sometimes not enough because you have to do all the pending tasks of the week on that particular day. These all chores leads to growing mental stress in young generations for example many young working class develops major anxiety issues and personality disorders as a result of doing tasks whole week.

For today needs and considering the current generation of people there is a rising demand to keep weekend longer so that employees can easily take a break from the daily hustle and bustle of life. If the weekend is long and has 3 leaves instead of one, an individual can go on a long vacation without thinking of that the leave will lead to deduction of its pay. For instance, many corporate companies has this deduction policy. To make this rule implement, employees have to gather together and submit a demand to companies or government officials so that everyone can take a break without any worry.

In conclusion, there should be a balance between work and enjoyment hours. A long weekend should solve many problems of employees and could lead to a peace space for every individual.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses the prompt by discussing whether the working week should be shorter and weekends longer, presenting a clear overall position in favor of shorter working weeks and extended leave. However, the introduction states 'I will discuss both sides and then give my point of view,' which is a slightly contradictory template as the prompt asks 'Do you agree or disagree?' rather than to discuss both views. Ideas are presented and supported with reasons regarding mental health and corporate policies, such as 'many young working class develops major anxiety issues,' but some points remain somewhat general and under-developed, placing this response at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized, though the transition between ideas can feel a bit mechanical. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'For today needs' and 'In conclusion,' but referencing and linking occasionally feel awkward or repetitive, as seen in 'These all chores leads to growing mental stress.' Overall logical progression is present, but cohesion lacks the flexibility and smooth flow required for higher bands, justifying a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'hustle and bustle of life' and 'contemporary world.' However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'meeting both ends meet' (instead of making ends meet), 'This all chores leads' (grammar and vocabulary mismatch), and 'peace space.' These minor lexical errors and awkward collocations place the response firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional clauses and relative structures like 'If the weekend is long and has 3 leaves instead of one, an individual can go on a long vacation.' However, frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('These all chores leads', 'corporate companies has this deduction policy') and missing articles or prepositions ('think of that the leave'). These errors occasionally distract the reader but do not impede overall communication, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptors.
