Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a statement that the workers should have a longer weekend and also their hours should be shorter. I firmly agree with this statement because this will give them some time for rest and energy for working better in the future.

At first, the reason behind it is that nowadays most of the companies are putting more labour to the workers and not giving them much weekends. As a result, most of workers did not pay proper attention to their work. They are tired and did not work properly instead some of them fell asleep during working hours. They feel bored by working same thing in most of the days of week. There can be seen many accidents on the road due to the physical fatigue of many workers.

Secondly, the other reason behind my opinion is that when certain amount of workers are spending much of their time at work they aren't be able give time to their families. Although, there is also pressure on the workers to manage their time. As a result, most of the workers become the victim of depression or any other mental disorder. Then they started abusing their wives and beating the children and some started smoking and drinking alcohol. So, the authorities should take some serious steps to reduce the working time period of workers and give them more weekend holidays.

In conclusion, i would say i strongly believe that the workers should get more holidays and less labour because of physical illness they can't work properly and due to continues work they aren't giving time to their families.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position agreeing that the working week should be shorter and weekends longer. Main ideas are presented, such as reduced fatigue and increased productivity, as well as the social benefits of spending time with family. However, these ideas are somewhat under-developed and tend to over-generalize, particularly in the second body paragraph where extreme consequences of overwork like domestic violence are brought up without sufficient balanced support. Examples are drawn from general knowledge rather than specific scenarios. While the prompt is addressed and the position is clear throughout, the support remains at a basic level, aligning best with a Band 6 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response features an overall coherent arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The student relies on basic transitional markers like 'At first', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', which feel somewhat formulaic. Referencing and pronoun use occasionally lack clarity, such as in the sentence 'when certain amount of workers are spending much of their time at work they aren't be able give time', where linking is clumsy. Overall progression is visible, but the cohesive devices and referencing mechanics restrict the score to Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic arguments about work hours and fatigue. However, the range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'putting more labour to the workers', 'working same thing in most of the days of week', and 'more weekend holidays'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'physical fatigue' and 'mental disorder', inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, making this a solid Band 5.0 to 5.5 performance, rounded to 5.5 based on the successful communication of meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'workers should have a longer weekend and also their hours should be shorter' (run-on tendency), 'most of workers did not pay proper attention' (missing article), 'they aren't be able give time' (verb form error), and 'due to continues work' (spelling/adjective form). Punctuation is also weak in places, particularly in the conclusion where capitalization and commas are missed. Although communication is rarely impeded entirely, the frequency of errors across various structures places this comfortably at Band 5.0.
