Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is increasingly argued that The working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. While i acknowledge that workers should have a longer weekend, I do not believe that this view can be applied universally. In my view, A balanced approach is more suitable .
to begin with, there are several compelling reasons why a shorter working week can be considered valid. First and foremost, it can improve employees' work-life balance. In other words, workers can have more time to rest, spend with their families and participate in personal activities. Consequently, their productivity and job satisfaction Can increase. Furthermore, another noteworthy consideration is that a longer weekend can improve employees' mental health. As a result, workers can perform their responsibilities more effectively, which can have far reaching implications for individuals, society and the economy. Equally importantly, Given that employees have sufficient time for rest and personal responsibilities. Therefore, these factors provide substantial justification for the view that the working week should be shorter.
nevertheless, the aforementioned argument has certain limits that warrant careful consideration. This is mainly because some businesses need their employees to work for a fixed number of hors keep their services and production run. For instance, hospitals and customer-service companies may need staff throughout the week, demonstrating that reducing working hours could create difficulties in maintaining essential services. Hence, the claim that the working week should be shorter may not hold true in every circumstance.
Moreover, some workers may experience a reduction in income. In essence, if working hours are reduced without maintaining salaries, employees could earn less money. particularly In situations where workers depend on their working hours to support themselves and their families.
More importantly, the needs of different industries should be considered. On balance, therefore, these considerations indicate that this statement is only partly true.
In conclusion, although i concede that worker should have a longer weekend, i remain convinced that balanced approach is more suitable. Ultimately, The validity of this view depends largely on factor, rather than beging universally applicable

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The candidate successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout the response. The introduction outlines the stance that a shorter working week cannot be applied universally, and this is supported by well-developed body paragraphs exploring both the benefits of shorter hours, such as improved work-life balance and mental health, and the practical limitations for specific industries and potential income reductions. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples like hospitals and customer-service companies, aligning closely with the Band 7 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently structured, moving smoothly from the introduction to supporting arguments, counter-arguments, and a definitive conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to link ideas, such as 'to begin with', 'furthermore', and 'nevertheless'. However, paragraphing could be slightly more polished, and there are occasional minor issues with referencing and sentence linkage, such as a fragmented sentence structure in the second paragraph ('Equally importantly, Given that... Therefore...'). Overall, this reflects the characteristics of Band 6.5 to 7.0, comfortably earning a solid 7.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task with some attempts at less common and academic items, such as 'compelling reasons', 'far reaching implications', and 'substantial justification'. While there is an adequate lexical resource to convey meaning clearly, there are some noticeable word choice and capitalization inaccuracies, such as 'hors' instead of 'hours', 'run' instead of 'running', and lowercase 'i' or awkward phrasing like 'beging universally applicable'. These minor slips place the response firmly in the Band 6 territory.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
A mix of simple and complex sentence forms is used throughout the essay. The writer attempts complex structures with varying degrees of success. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation inconsistencies, such as sentence fragments ('Equally importantly, Given that employees have sufficient time for rest and personal responsibilities. Therefore, these factors provide...'), incorrect capitalization ('While i acknowledge', 'In my view, A balanced'), and missing articles. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 7.
