Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is widely agreed that the people for work whole week so they are vey tired for this routine so they also deserve the shorter weekend. then the people take rest and return more energy for the work. however also have few one disadvantages for shorter weekend.

To begin with, people work for whole so they also tired so much. Due to fact they working hard whole week so no more energy to working then they deserve the shorter weekend they take rest and next monday they work so more energy. A prime example is Ali work every day so he not feeling for next day he look tired every day. Futhermore, mostly company working emploies for whole week so they don't spent time with family member they also miss their families during working. people feel loneliness and not attention during work so company to take break for weekend. so they spent more time in their families. For instances, In past 10 years Jaweria worked for weekend so they not attend any party and family function. She just busy in work.

Another critical factor they also have some loss in working not weekend. Many factories and other earning places has shorten the weekend but people earn more for their families and living expenses beacuse there family are big and home rent monthly pay so they work whole wekeend for earn living expenses. For example, Moeez working the whole weekend for earn living expenses.

In conclusion, I am agreed that the weekend should be shoeten beacuse people take rest and next day he worked more energy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether the working week should be shorter and weekends longer. However, the position is sometimes contradictory or unclear, particularly in the introduction and body paragraphs where the distinction between shorter and longer weekends becomes confused. Ideas are repetitive and under-developed, relying on overly simplistic examples such as naming individuals like 'Ali', 'Jaweria', and 'Moeez' without providing deeper elaboration or analysis. While the writer touches upon both rest and financial considerations, the arguments lack depth and extension. This performance aligns closely with Band 5, where the task is addressed only partially, the position is not consistently clear, and ideas remain limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization, separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion into paragraphs. However, there is a distinct lack of clear overall progression and logical flow. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, with excessive reliance on phrases like 'To begin with' and simple additive transitions that fail to connect ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion is frequently faulty, resulting in run-on structures and disjointed sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns such as 'they' and 'she', making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Overall, this corresponds to a Band 5 level due to the presence of some organization accompanied by inadequate or inaccurate cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic, repetitive, and restricted to everyday terms such as 'work', 'whole week', 'tired', and 'rest'. There are numerous word choice and word formation errors, such as 'working emploies' instead of 'employ employees' or 'employers', and 'earn living expenses' repeated multiple times. Less common lexical items are rarely attempted, and where they are, inaccuracies in collocation and spelling (e.g., 'shoeten' for shorten, 'wekeend' for weekend) are evident. Although the meaning can generally be extracted despite the strain caused by frequent errors, the lexical range is severely limited and minimally adequate. This reflects the descriptors for Band 5, characterized by a limited vocabulary range and noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatically, the response is heavily flawed with a very limited range of structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex or compound sentences are almost entirely ungrammatical or poorly formed, featuring missing verbs, incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'Due to fact they working hard'), and severe subject-verb agreement issues. Punctuation is largely neglected, with sentences run together using commas instead of full stops or proper conjunctions. Errors are extremely frequent throughout the text, often distorting the intended meaning and requiring the reader to re-read to comprehend the ideas. This clearly fits the Band 4 descriptor, where errors are frequent and significantly impede the reader's understanding.
