Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that employees should work fewer hours and have a longer weekend. This essay will discuss the my point of view on this argument

In my opinion, Working week should be short and a long wekend is provied to workers. This provide a freedom of life and workers can take more rest. along physical relaxation the mental freedom is also very important.Families have more time to spend with eachother. Many workers have facing stressful demanding jobs. So, a long wekend help to balance thier energy. For example, An Emergeny duty doctor, need much long wekend after perofrming thier hectic duties of many days.

Another advantage is a shorter woeking schdule can improve people work-balance life.People can do more exercise, hobbies ,travel and healthcare which can play a very sifnificant role to rebuild thier mental state of health. This coud contribute to greater job satisfaction and reduce exhuastion.Companies not faces the healthy and potential workers shortages.

However, This idea is not suitable for all sectors.Hospitals,Emergeny,Transport sectore require to operate continously. Reducing employee's hours in these sectors could require additional workers and to maintin their salaries could be a burden. Therefore, governments and employers should consider the specific requirements of different occupations rather than applying one arrangement to every workplace.

In conclusion, In conclusion, I agree that reducing the working week and extending the weekend could provide important benefits for workers and employers, particularly by improving work-life balance and productivity. Nevertheless, the policy should be introduced flexibly because the needs of different industries and employees vary.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether the working week should be shortened and providing reasons for this stance. The student introduces relevant arguments, such as physical and mental well-being, work-life balance, and job satisfaction. Ideas are extended with examples, such as mentioning an emergency duty doctor. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed and rely on generalisations, and the consideration of exceptions for sectors like hospitals and transport adds necessary balance. The prompt's requirements are met sufficiently to achieve a Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is generally coherent with an overall logical arrangement, though the progression is occasionally hindered by faulty cohesion and mechanical linking devices. Paragraphing is used, separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but transitions between sentences can be abrupt. For instance, sentences like 'Many workers have facing stressful demanding jobs. So, a long wekend help to balance thier energy' display basic referencing and punctuation errors. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or repetitively, such as the redundant repetition of 'In conclusion' at the start of the final paragraph. Overall, the organisational structure is adequate for a Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'hectic duties', 'sifnificant role', and 'exhuastion'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'wekend', 'woeking', 'coude', 'sifnificant', and 'exhuastion', alongside collocation slips like 'have facing' instead of 'face' or 'are facing'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5 due to the frequency of inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures such as 'reducing the working week and extending the weekend could provide important benefits'. Nevertheless, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Working week should be short', 'Companies not faces'), incorrect verb forms ('need much long wekend after perofrming thier hectic duties'), and missing articles. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods, are also present. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar at a Band 5.0.
