Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of a shorter working week and longer weekends. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as improved family life, better health, increased creativity, and higher productivity. However, the development of these ideas is frequently limited and unsupported, falling into generalisations. For instance, the mention of Microsoft and Tata lacks specific detail and remains superficial. The essay also trails off abruptly at the end with an incomplete final sentence ('becase i'). Despite these shortcomings, all main parts of the task are addressed, positioning this response at a Band 5.5 level. To improve, the writer must ensure complete sentences are used throughout and fully elaborate on each supporting point with detailed explanations and concrete examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some overall organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding thought attempt, though it is cut short. Logical progression is often hindered by abrupt transitions and faulty referencing. For example, pronouns like 'there' instead of 'their' and 'this one' create confusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs contain multiple disparate ideas, such as health and hobbies being jumbled together in a single section without adequate cohesive ties. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inaccurately. Overall, the structural flow is disjointed, which places the coherence and cohesion of the response at a Band 5.0. Future writing should focus on clear topic sentences for each paragraph and ensuring logical transitions between distinct points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples include 'worker' instead of 'workers', 'commanly' for 'commonly', 'storter' for 'shorter', 'benifits' for 'benefits', 'emphatatically' for 'emphatically', 'entusuastic' for 'enthusiastic', 'persive' for 'pursue', and 'turnover' misuse. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'productivity' and 'creativity', but systematic spelling errors across basic words drag the score down. This performance corresponds to a Band 5.0. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their control of common word spellings and accurately deploy less common lexical items related to business and lifestyle.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and error-prone attempts at complex structures. Frequent grammatical inaccuracies include subject-verb agreement errors ('people how are worker... is commanly seem'), missing articles, and incomplete sentences, notably trailing off at the end. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and missing capitalization or terminal punctuation. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in parsing the intended meaning, this meets the criteria for a Band 5.0. To improve, the student should practice foundational sentence construction, ensure every sentence has a complete subject and predicate, and carefully review their work for basic agreement and tense consistency.
