Student answer (Band 5.0)

lesser working week, lesser time to complete task, lazy so that one doesn't get affected by mental issue

agree- increase productivity, reduce stress,

Every coin has its two side, reducing the number of weekdays and providing more holiday for workers might give a person time to relax and reduce stress, but it will also decrease the time in hand to complete the project and make a person lazy. So, eventhough it is crucial to have enough time to rest and reset the mind, i don't agree with the statement as it encourages to have more fun than work.

On one hand, when a person has longer weekend they have sufficient free time due to they ofter travels to different place and have fun which decrease the potential stress they get from worring about the work. For example, country like US has beautiful landscape and competitive work environment but with Saturday and Sunday holiday more people have the flexibility to travel around.

In conclusion, I believe a company should have enough leave grant rather than lesser working days per week in order to increase productivity and growth of a person.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 189 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is restricted. Although the writer attempts to present a position ('i don't agree with the statement'), the ideas remain underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The introduction includes disjointed notes rather than a fully formed opening, and the counterarguments and supporting examples, such as the mention of the US landscape, are superficial and not fully articulated. To achieve a higher band score, the writer must ensure the task is fully addressed by writing at least 250 words and providing extended, well-supported arguments rather than brief assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organised into brief paragraphs, and attempts are made to use transitional markers such as 'On one hand' and 'In conclusion'. However, the overall cohesion is mechanical and sometimes faulty. For example, the phrase 'due to they ofter travels' contains a grammatical referencing error that disrupts the flow of information. Furthermore, the opening lines of the text consist of fragmented notes rather than coherent sentences, which negatively impacts the overall structure. Paragraphing is attempted, but the central body paragraph is overly dense and combines multiple loosely related ideas without clear internal progression. The logical sequencing of thoughts needs to be strengthened.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and adequate only for basic communication. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'competitive work environment' and 'productivity', but also makes noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'lesser working week' instead of 'shorter working week' and 'leave grant' instead of 'leave allowance'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, including 'eventhough', 'ofter', 'travels', and 'worring'. These lexical inaccuracies restrict the precision of the argument, placing the response firmly in the Band 5 category for this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Examples include 'when a person has longer weekend they have sufficient free time due to they ofter travels...', which contains multiple errors in articles, pronoun referencing, and verb forms. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, as seen in 'i don't agree'. While the meaning is generally retrievable despite these frequent errors, the high frequency of grammatical slips prevents the response from reaching a Band 6.
