Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position agreeing that the working week should be shorter with a longer weekend. The student presents relevant ideas, such as improved mental well-being, better work-life balance, and economic impacts like increased tourism revenue. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally shifts to tangential points, such as companies hiring new staff to lower the labor rate. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the arguments would benefit from greater extension and deeper explanation rather than a listing of disparate points. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though body paragraphs are somewhat dense and blend multiple distinct points together. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To start with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and transitions can be a bit mechanical or unclear, such as the abrupt shift in the second paragraph ('On the other hand, shorter holidays or longer weekend prevent...'). Progression is discernible, but logical connections between sentences occasionally feel disjointed. Overall, the organizational features adequately support the text, meriting a Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'work-life balance', 'mental well-being', and 'competition era'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'employe', 'towrards', 'enhnace', 'esssential', 'presssure', 'thier', 'satff', 'individula', and 'palying'. These errors do not seriously impede communication as the meaning remains generally clear, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'in today's world, to manage and balance the workload every employe need a break...' and 'when people on vacation they do activties...'. There are several subject-verb agreement errors ('every employe need', 'holiday or leave allow') and missing auxiliary verbs. While these errors are noticeable and cause some difficulty for the reader, communication is not entirely obscured. The grammatical control corresponds to a Band 5.
