Student answer (Band 5.5)

I personally disagree with the issue whether the working days should be one days less. by no means should we make the weekend three days long. there are two aspects that support my point of view.

First of all,now all over the world are facing and unprecedented economic recession caused by covid 19. Many factors are forced to close and the shops shut down. The economic loss is substantial Nevertheless, with the invent of vaccine. I perceive that now people can go back to their work. This would certainly be conducive to our economy. if we reduce one day from work, even just from a week, it would cuse repercussions on our society in terms of the development of economy.

Secondly,I'm used to do my leisure activities saturday and friday. if there is one day more, i would wonder what to do on that day and that means I have to rearrange my weekend plans. most importantly, I come to admit that to some degree.I am a workaholic. I cannot even image if i am separeted from my favourite place my office. It is the place where i retreat to when i feel anxious and want to get rid of everything. working indeed gives me a sense of achivement and contentment i therefore, would oppose to the idea of cutting one working day.

Though some people may argue that they need one day more in the week to reduce their stress from work,it could be harmful to our economic growth in this harsh time. Also i believe that many people are used to the current working system, which provides two days for breck. The sudden change will make people confused. unless the government enacts a comprehensive policy for this new system, ithink the idea does not work and it would surely brings choose in our society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student clearly states a position against shortening the working week, addressing the prompt directly. The response covers two main areas: economic concerns regarding the post-COVID-19 recovery and personal routine preferences as a workaholic. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat restricted and personal examples tend to dominate the second body paragraph, leading to a slight lack of formal academic depth. However, the central position is maintained throughout the essay. This performance aligns well with Band 6.0 descriptors, as all parts of the task are addressed and a relevant, albeit partially under-developed, position is presented.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic, particularly with the final paragraph combining multiple distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'i therefore, would oppose' and abrupt transitions. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and punctuation errors (such as missing spaces after periods and commas) disrupt the smooth flow of the text. Overall, the arrangement provides a coherent general progression, but the mechanical cohesion and poor punctuation place it firmly at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for an economic and lifestyle discussion, using words such as 'recession', 'substantial', 'conducive', and 'comprehensive'. However, there are frequent word-choice errors, collocational slips, and spelling mistakes throughout the text (e.g., 'invent' instead of 'advent', 'cuse' for 'cause', 'separeted', 'achivement', 'breck', and 'brings choose' instead of 'brings chaos'). While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey meaning, these noticeable errors and inaccuracies prevent the score from reaching Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures and relative clauses. However, basic grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent sentence-boundary errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('by no means', 'first of all, now', 'if we reduce'), missing subjects, and punctuation issues. Errors in verb forms and prepositions (e.g., 'used to do' instead of 'used to doing', 'on saturday and friday') are also present. Although these errors rarely completely impede communication, their frequency across the text places the performance at Band 5.0.
