Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is an ongoing debate among various organizations to consider the week days and off days of their employees. Some people believe that workers should have longer weekends. I agree to this statement, and in this essay, i will give reasons in favour of my arguments.
To commence with, one major benefit of reducing workdays is that employees will get to spend more time with their families. It can be attributed to the fact that the personal life of many individuals gets compromised because of the prolonged work hours. Hence, limiting the working week will provide an opportunity to improve personal relationships. For instance, if a pharmacist who works in another town gets more off days, it will become possible for him/her to visit the hometown more frequently.
Another positive impact is that it can improve the quality of work provided by the employees. It is particularly significant because numerous individuals get exhausted due to extensive working hours. If the work days are decreased, it can help employees to work with greater concentration, and provide improved outcomes.
On the other hand, some people claim that if the working days are shortened, the company will not be able to complete the monthly targets. This means that the profit of the organization will be compromised. Consequently, both the employers and the employees will suffer loss. One example is_if a pharmaceutical company offers fewer working days, the marketing team will not be able to complete the sales target, and the company will has to tolerate the consequences. However, this is not applicable for many other industries.
Although less office days can have negative impact on particular companies, the advantages such as_improved personal life and work quality linked with better concentration still outweighs the undesirable factors. I believe that factories should facilitate their workers by providing extended weekend to keep them motivated.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses all parts of the task by taking a well-defined position in agreement with shorter working weeks and longer weekends. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of pharmacists visiting their hometowns and the impact of exhaustion on corporate sales targets. The progression of arguments is logical, presenting reasons related to family life and work productivity, alongside a thoughtful counterargument about meeting business targets. To move toward a higher band, the development could incorporate deeper economic or societal analysis rather than relying on slightly generalized industry examples, ensuring that every main point is explored with maximum depth and nuance throughout the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with family relationships, moving to productivity, addressing the counterargument, and concluding with a balanced summary. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Another positive impact', 'On the other hand', and 'Although' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is managed appropriately. To achieve an even higher level of cohesion, the writer could employ more sophisticated referencing and avoid occasional mechanical transitions, ensuring that sentences flow seamlessly into one another without relying on formulaic sentence openers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating less common lexical items such as 'compromised', 'extensive working hours', and 'facilitate'. Meaning is conveyed clearly despite some minor lexical slips or slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'the company will has to tolerate' (which also crosses into grammar) and 'less office days'. Spelling is generally accurate. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to use a wider range of sophisticated and flexible vocabulary with precise collocations, avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'working days' and 'working week', and demonstrating more nuanced control over academic style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response displays a workable mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating good control over several complex structures like conditional sentences ('if a pharmacist who works in another town gets more off days, it will become possible...') and concessive clauses ('Although less office days can have negative impact...'). There are some grammatical errors, such as 'company will has to tolerate' and missing pluralisation or articles in phrases like 'have negative impact' and 'providing extended weekend'. However, these errors rarely impede communication. To secure a higher band, the student needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and eliminate minor mechanical slips in verb agreement and article usage.
