Student answer (Band 5.5)

No,i did not agree with that the working weekend should be shorter and workers should have longer weekend because if the working weekend become shorter than the working pressure increased with that and workers has more burden on them than it should effect the productivity and health of workers.

During the normal working week the work is divided day to day if work week become shorter the employer increase the work load on worker because he did not want to loose its perfomance at productivity.

Another reason is that the long holidays brings laziness and breaking in working rythm so, after longers weekends it is hard to back in that working rythm for proper working.

if working week become shorther it also effect the income and salary of working person, employer would pay according to the working hours or days.

One of example which come in my mind related to shorter working hours and longer weekend,For example during the longer weekends when workers are are not available we may need some urgent work and we are unable to manage that without workers than it is nearly impossible to gather your team or works for urgent work finishing because during longer weekends most of people went out of station for differnt kinds of activities such as some personal home work, meeting relatives or for seesighting or family gathering so, it is much difficult to bring them back and gather them for work,

Thats why, I did not agreee with the idea of shorther working week and longer weekend because this idea will bring so much difficulties for productivity and income also.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by taking a clear position against shorter working weeks, offering reasons such as increased pressure, reduced productivity, and difficulties with urgent tasks. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the point regarding increased workload and pressure is stated repeatedly without deep elaboration or specific examples. The example provided about urgent tasks during longer weekends is relevant and attempts to support the position, but it lacks sufficient development and clarity regarding how businesses generally handle such operations. To move up to a higher level, the writer needs to fully extend and support all main arguments with detailed explanations and concrete real-world examples rather than relying on generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some basic organisation, opening with a clear stance and grouping several supporting arguments into a body paragraph structure. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the text suffers from repetitive phrasing and run-on sentences. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate; for example, the essay relies heavily on repetitive conjunctions and transitional phrases like 'Another reason is that' and 'For example' in a mechanical fashion. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the lengthy final example sentence where multiple clauses are strung together without appropriate structural markers. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next to create a clear logical flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the writer's basic message. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include phrases like 'working weekend' instead of 'working week', 'breaking in working rythm', 'bring them back', and 'out of station'. The writer attempts to use less common items such as 'productivity' and 'gathering', but inaccurate word forms and spelling slips persist throughout the text. To reach a higher standard, the writer must expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to natural collocations, word forms, and spelling accuracy so that vocabulary can be used with greater precision and flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple and flawed complex sentences. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles that cause difficulty and hesitation for the reader. For instance, the opening sentence contains multiple tense and agreement issues ('i did not agree', 'become shorter', 'has more burden', 'should effect'). Punctuation is also weak, particularly the extremely long, run-on sentence used for the final example, which lacks proper comma splices or subordinate restructuring. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to structural confusion. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to produce a greater variety of error-free complex structures, maintain consistent verb tenses, and improve punctuation control.
