Student answer (Band 5.5)
Weekends are necessary for workers for the refreshment of their mind. Workers always has a tension in there mind and weekends relax their mind. Long weekends also make them lazy while short weekends ends fast and they don't have time for their own.
Longer weekends make the workers idle and it make them slow in there work. But on the other hand if they can't get long weekends there attention can be diverted and it can cause them difficulty in their work.
For example: A worker is getting 3 days off a week he has enough time to spend with his family. Or if he has a interest in recreational activity he can do them also. But after the weekend he become lazy and his attention is also compromised.
Shorter weekends has its own side as it can harm the mental health of the worker. He does not have the time for his own activity and his only focus is on their work.
For example: A worker who is working 10 hours a day and he work 6 days a week he can't be able to spend time with his/her family. If they has a interest in swimming we say so they have a only one day off it is difficult for them to do it.
I agree with longer weekends more because it give relief to the workers and it also has a good impact on their work and it is also good for their health as well. Shorter weekends harm the mental and physical health both and the focus of the worker is also diverted.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position regarding shorter working weeks and longer weekends. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the impact on mental health, family time, and productivity, for instance when mentioning how a worker getting three days off has enough time to spend with family. However, some ideas are under-developed or contradictory. For example, the writer simultaneously argues that longer weekends make workers idle and slow, yet concludes by agreeing with longer weekends because they give relief and improve health. To reach a higher level, the arguments need to be more fully extended and consistently supported throughout the essay without internal contradictions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, and simple cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'For example' and 'But on the other hand'. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and transitions between contrasting points within paragraphs feel abrupt. For instance, shifting immediately from the disadvantages of longer weekends to examples supporting them lacks smooth logical bridging. To achieve a higher level, the logical organisation and progression throughout the text need to be made clearer and more consistent, ensuring cohesive devices are managed more flexibly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to communicate basic ideas about working hours and health. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'recreational activity' and 'compromised', but these are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'there mind' instead of 'their mind', and 'ends fast'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present, though they generally do not seriously impede overall communication. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a more precise and flexible range of vocabulary, using uncommon lexical items with greater awareness of style and collocation while minimising errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as conditional or concessive clauses introduced by 'if'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and articles. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'Workers always has', pluralisation errors like 'short weekends ends', and prepositional or structural flaws like 'he can't be able to spend'. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are persistent enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. To progress, the writer must improve control over basic grammar rules, subject-verb concord, and expand the variety of error-free complex structures.
