Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued that employers should have more holidays and less working days. I firmly believe, employers should be given relaxation, by reducing working days and increasing holidays.

From my perspective, I agree that weekend should be extended and week days should be leesen for labour because it helps them to give relaxation and they give more time to their families. For instance, many staff work seven days a week and get only one day off so, they cannot not look after their children and even cannot travel with them because of these hectic day. The one day which they get, they spend that day while sleeping or doing other officework. Subsequently, even some employees cannot look after their health. So more holidays helped them to take rest and it is also helpful for their mental as well as physical health. By getting relaxation, they work with their full strength and interest.

In contrast, shorter working days affect the work place and work. For example, if a buidling is going to be built in five months, due to less working hours it will be ready in seven or eight month. Employees will become lazy and don't concentrate on work as well as it also affect their income. In general it will affect the companies.

In conclusion, employees should be provided atleat three holidays in a week, it is cruical for their mental and physical health but there are some draw backs which includes, less salaries and more time is consumed to complete work. Otherwise it is crucial for workfore.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, maintaining a clear position that the working week should be shorter and weekends extended. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions the benefits to mental and physical health and family time, the supporting examples are brief and repetitive, such as stating that employees spend their single day off sleeping or doing office work. In the counter-argument paragraph, the ideas regarding construction delays and employee laziness lack deeper exploration. To reach the next level, the writer needs to present fully developed ideas with more substantial explanations and examples to support the central argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation evident in the text, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the response. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate, inadequate, or repetitive, as seen with transitional phrases like 'Subsequently,' and 'In contrast,' which are used mechanically. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun shift between 'employers' in the introduction and 'employees' in the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks smooth logical transitions. To improve, the writer should ensure a more logical flow between sentences and use a wider variety of cohesive ties more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable lexical errors and issues with word choice, word form, and collocation throughout the text, such as confusing 'employers' with 'employees', writing 'leesen' instead of 'lessen', and 'buidling' instead of 'building'. Other awkward phrases include 'hectic day' and 'work place and work'. These vocabulary errors and misspellings cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range. To progress, the writer must expand their vocabulary to include less common lexical items with greater precision and pay closer attention to accurate word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'weekend should be extended', 'week days should be leesen', 'more holidays helped them', and 'it also affect their income'. Punctuation errors and missing commas also occur frequently, causing occasional difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to produce a greater variety of complex structures with improved accuracy, ensuring that basic grammatical rules such as pluralisation and verb agreement are consistently applied.
