Student answer (Band 5.5)

The workers plays an important role in the development of country. It is claimed that working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. I completely agree with this arguement. I will discuss it in detail.

Firstly, when workers spend more time on weekend they can prepare themselves for doing work with more precision and accuracy because they can divert their mind to other activities when they are on weekend. Additionally, when we can give more values to human rights than work we are developing worklife balance. Furthermore, when we are allowing workers to give more time to their family than work we are making their mind to remain satisfied by their work.

Secondly, when we should give more importance to workers free time they help us to overcome different problems. Those businesses where more workers needed than usual those worker who are already working there suffer their more energy and time during working day. However, when we should reduce working week workers remain energized and stay awake during work.

Thirdly, if we focus more on work than worker worklife balance there are different problems may occuring. The workers prefer to start small businesses when they have no enough time to spend with family. In this way, big businesses might face shortage of workers. Workers play crucial role in the economy of the country and it is also suffering when workers can not work at different government departments.

To conclude, by giving more time to workers for their family we should maintain worklife balance successfuly. Therefore, longer weekend might plays an important role in the economy and also help to solve different problems regarding to labour. Otherwise, unexpected results might occur due to shorter weekend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that completely agrees with having a shorter working week and a longer weekend. Relevant ideas are introduced throughout the body paragraphs, such as work-life balance, mental satisfaction, and economic benefits. However, some ideas are under-developed or remain somewhat repetitive, particularly in the third and fourth paragraphs where the discussion regarding businesses and the economy lacks specific extension and detailed support. The overall stance is maintained until the sudden truncation at the end, but the main arguments require further depth and elaboration to reach a higher level of task response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction and multiple body paragraphs using sequence markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Thirdly', and 'To conclude'. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on basic transitional words. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally faulty, as seen in the rather abrupt shifts between ideas and the incomplete final sentence ('On the other hand'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links within paragraphs need more sophisticated cohesive devices and smoother transitions to ensure a clearer overall progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'development', 'precision', 'human rights', and 'economy'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'worklife balance' and 'satisfied', though these are accompanied by noticeable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, including 'divert their mind to other activities' and 'suffer their more energy'. Spelling and word-form errors are present, such as 'arguement', 'occuring', and 'successyfuly', but they do not severely impede communication. To improve further, the writer should refine word choice and collocation for greater precision and natural style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are often limited or repetitive. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The workers plays', article omissions, and awkward prepositions within phrases like 'regarding to labour'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, and sentences such as 'when we should give more importance to workers free time they help us' lack necessary internal clarity and structural control. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to restrict the response to a lower level of grammatical accuracy.
