Student answer (Band 6.0)
The concept of shorter weedays and longer weekend has gain significant trction worldwide. I firmly agree with this proposal, as it enhaces individual well being and also reduces stress which alternately help in more productivity.
First and foremost, extending the weekend allows employees to get more rest time, more recovery and attent personal duties and responsibilities. The universal two day break often leaves individuals completing house chores and errands giving less time to rest and recover. A three day weekend provides sufficient time to recharge mentally and physically, workplace anxiety and stress-related illnesses. Furthermore, individuals maintain healthier relationships with family and friends and a more balanced lifestyle.
Equally important is the positive impact on the reduced hours during work. Long working days frequently results in fatigue and reduced focus. When proffesional are energetic and motivated the overall work output remains steady and also improves over time. Trails involving four days a week have shown that well-rested employees accomplished task faster with fewer errors. Furthermore, companies that adopt shorter work schedules experience higher retension rates, lower rates of absence and more dedicated workforce.
Nevertheless, opponents argue that certain industries, such as emergency care, hospitals and factories that are continously manufacturing, cannot be shutdown for 3 days. While continuos coverage remains essential, this obstacle can be easily address by rotating shifts and hiring more employees rather that overworking individual staff.
In conclusion, adopting a shorter working week offers many benefits for modern society. By prioritizing sustainable work hours employees becomes healthier, happier and more productive workforce.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-sustained position on whether the working week should be shortened. Main ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing employee recovery, productivity gains, and company retention rates. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in places without deeper nuance, which places it firmly at this level. To reach higher bands, the writer would need to fully develop every supporting point with more detailed examples or broader sociological contexts, ensuring that all arguments are thoroughly explored rather than briefly stated.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout, moving smoothly from introduction to individual benefits, economic impacts, counterarguments, and a concise conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-topic. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Furthermore'. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to integrate cohesive devices more flexibly and unobtrusively, ensuring that the transitions between ideas flow completely naturally without relying on standard formulaic links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items such as 'sustainable work hours', 'stress-related illnesses', and 'universal two day break'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'weedays' instead of 'weekdays', 'trction' instead of 'traction', 'enhaces' instead of 'enhances', and 'proffesional' instead of 'professionals'. These vocabulary and spelling inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the score. To progress further, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire with greater precision and eliminate basic typographical and spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct compound and subordinate clauses such as 'While continuous coverage remains essential, this obstacle can be easily addressed...' There are, however, several grammatical and structural errors present, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'employees becomes' and missing prepositions or incorrect word forms like 'alternately help in more productivity' and 'address by rotating'. Punctuation and article use also show occasional inconsistencies. These errors persist throughout the text but rarely impede overall comprehension. To move up, the writer should aim for a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and refine their control over tense consistency and agreement.
