Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, work days in a week are a topic of debate. Some say working week should be shorter and workers should be enjoying extended weekend. I also agree with the statement.
Usually, people work 40 hours a week but advancement in technology has changed how most of the workplaces operate. Now employees can operate from home requiring comparatively less work hours in the office. Moreover, most of the tasks performed by machines can be automated with help of artificial intelligence. These automated services can be overwatched from mobile places through internet of things. As a result, workforce requires lesser workdays.
Furthermore, in the industries where technology is not as much developed and physical presence of workers is mandatory reducing working hours can benefit employers and society. For example, reducing working hours of previous employees to half and hiring more staff as an alternative will increase job opportunities in addition to solving the problem of workforce shortage. Moreover, this will help them with the costs of space, the energy, the bills etc.
In conclusion, making right use of technology working hours can be reduced drastically favoring both employers and the employees. This can also help with expanding job market and introducing new work opportunities. This way businesses can save on their costs and workers can enjoy longer weekends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating an opinion agreeing that working weeks should be shorter and weekends extended. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the impact of technology and artificial intelligence, as well as employment benefits in traditional industries. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended; for instance, the mention of energy and bill costs for businesses lacks a thorough explanation of how reducing hours achieves this. Furthermore, important length requirements are not met, as the response contains only 217 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Ideas are generally logically sequenced, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct theme such as technological advancement or traditional industries. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical, and paragraphing could be utilized more flexibly. The response fully achieves a baseline level of logical organization and shows elements of smoother progression, satisfying the lower band criteria while partially touching upon features of the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the main arguments about technology and the workforce. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'automated', 'artificial intelligence', and 'workforce shortage', but exhibits some inaccuracy in word choice and collocation, for example, writing 'overwatched' instead of 'monitored' or 'overseen', and 'from mobile places' instead of 'remotely'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present, such as missing articles ('with help of artificial intelligence'), but they do not seriously impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the intended meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional ideas and relative clauses effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('Some say working week should be', 'with help of'), minor pluralisation issues ('lesser workdays'), and awkward prepositions. However, these errors rarely impede communication. The writer shows good control over basic sentence construction and incorporates several error-free sentences, balancing complex structures with simpler assertions, which places the grammatical performance securely at this level.
