Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, it is widely argued that workers should have smaller working week and prolonged weekend. While this trend brings some advantages, such as comfort and extra time for socialising, it also reduces productivity. Therefore, I partially agree with this argument.
Many people believe that workers need longer weekend because of many reasons. The primary reason is that, longer weekends allow individuals to have a proper rest and allocate more time for their personal life. Additionally, people can spend more time with their families and dwelve into other activities, such as sport, leisure and socialising. Moreover, shorter work period reduce the excessive stress and burden.
In contrast, longer work duration can not only drain a person energy and but also leave him incapable of doing anything else afterwards. As a result, they end up stuck in a never ending circle, home to work and back to home.
However, if the work days are shorter, it eventually reduce the overall productivity. Workers face laziness, which divert their attention from the actual work. Consequently, a task that normally takes a single day, gets delayed to the subsequent day. For instance, if an employee acquire a whole day to achieve a particular task, will now complete the same task in twice of the orignal time, if the work time being reduced by half.
In conclusion, while work period has certain benefits, the drawbacks that appear along with it shouldn't overshadowed. Thus, I partially agree with the statement of reducing working week and stretching weekend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that balances both sides of the argument before concluding with a partial agreement. The ideas presented are relevant to the prompt, discussing both the benefits of personal time and the drawbacks regarding productivity. However, some ideas lack full development. For instance, the paragraph arguing for productivity losses touches upon laziness and delays, but the supporting points remain somewhat generalized rather than thoroughly extended. To reach a higher level, the writer should ensure that every main idea is supported with deeper explanations and more robust, fully fleshed-out examples rather than brief, hypothetical statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the information is divided into appropriate paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are utilized to signal transitions between ideas. Nevertheless, cohesion can feel a bit mechanical at times, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun shift in phrases like 'drain a person energy and but also leave him capable'. Progression is visible, but refining the flow between sentences by integrating ideas more smoothly without relying on formulaic transitions would elevate the organizational quality.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common phrases like 'prolonged weekend' and 'excessive stress and burden'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling and word-form inaccuracies like 'dwelve' instead of 'delve', 'acquire' instead of 'acquires' or 'has', and 'orignal' instead of 'original'. Collocations also show occasional awkwardness, such as 'never ending circle' instead of 'vicious circle'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a level where precision is still developing. Expanding control over less common lexical items and ensuring correct word forms will help improve this aspect.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct compound and complex clauses, such as conditional structures in the paragraph discussing productivity. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation that surface throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'shorter work period reduce', missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'can not only drain a person energy and but also leave him'. Punctuation and prepositional patterns also show inconsistencies. Because these errors occur regularly within a limited range of complex structures, the writing sits comfortably within the current band, requiring more frequent error-free complex sentences and finer grammatical control to progress.
