Student answer (Band 4.5)
It is often argued that working weeks should be shortened and a longer weekend should be given to the workers. While there are arguments both for and against this view. I completely agree with the statement because in contemporary society, short and long working weeks for the employees is a part of a heated debate. In this essay, I will discuss how the longer weekend is supportive for the workers.
In conclusion, although reduced the working weeks may beneficial to complete the work on time. I believe that longer weekend may very helpful for the workers to boost their energy and maintain their health because health is the main priority. Therefore, workers can concentrate on their work properly and comfortably.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, primarily because it fails to meet the minimum word requirement of 250 words, stopping short at just 120 words. While the writer manages to state a position agreeing that working weeks should be shortened, the ideas are presented in a very limited and undeveloped manner. The introduction includes repetitive and confusing phrasing, such as combining a 'short and long working week' notion, and the body lacks substantive arguments, examples, or extended reasoning to support the view beyond a brief mention of energy and health. To improve, the writer must ensure the essay reaches the required length and fully develops distinct, well-supported arguments for each body paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response shows some basic organization, featuring an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph, but it fails to present a clear overall progression. Noticeably, the essay lacks a body paragraph in between to properly develop the arguments, moving straight from the introduction to a concluding section that begins with 'In conclusion'. Furthermore, cohesive devices are handled clumsily; for example, the second sentence awkwardly fractures into a fragment ('While there are arguments both for and against this view. I completely agree...'). The overall arrangement of information is disjointed. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to structure the essay logically with distinct body paragraphs, ensure sentences connect smoothly without punctuation errors breaking cohesion, and utilize a broader and more accurate range of linking words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used represents a limited and minimally adequate range for the task. The writer attempts some topic-related terms, such as 'contemporary society' and 'priority', but the expression is heavily repetitive, frequently reusing words like 'workers', 'week', 'weekend', and 'work'. There are also noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'short and long working weeks for the employees is a part of a heated debate' and 'longer weekend may very helpful'. These errors do not completely block communication, but they restrict the precision of the writing. To achieve a higher score, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of less common vocabulary, use precise collocations, and eliminate repetitive phrasing by employing synonyms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammar demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the short text, such as a sentence fragment ('While there are arguments both for and against this view. I completely agree...'), missing auxiliary verbs ('although reduced the working weeks may beneficial'), and incorrect verb forms ('longer weekend may very helpful'). Punctuation is also handled poorly, with full stops incorrectly placed before dependent clauses or independent thoughts. To improve, the writer needs to increase the variety of sentence structures, ensure proper subject-verb agreement and word forms, and eliminate frequent errors that disrupt the flow and readability of the text.
