Student answer (Band 5.5)
The working days should be less and workers should enjoy a long weekend.Theres a lot of debate ongoing in todays world in this topic.
I totally agree with this because the Workers have a tough job to do all over the week and they dont get enough paid for there job so they have to do overtime etc for some extra earnings that why they dont have time to give to there families. They should be given long weeked because since there work is very hard they need a rest from the work because it is also equally important as to work for them because the health comes first.Certain amount of rest can also remove there mental stress and increase there productivity and creativity when they join office again which will lead to higher profits earned for the company they work. The longer weekends should also saves worker getting ill and can also reduce the amount of leaves they take and less working days will also motivate the workers to work with your organization as compared to others who have more working days.
Shorter working week also develops a sense of responsiblity in the workers to produce good results as compared to previously with the longer working week.Short working weeks also reduces the amount of concentration of a individual toward his/her work and they will avoid using mobile phones or different activities during the working days. A great example of it is one of colleague who usually uses phones and talks to his wife in the office instead of doing work and if he is doing any kind of task his focus is still at thats why the shorter working weeks are important

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly presenting a position in favor of a shorter working week and longer weekends. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the benefits to employee health, stress reduction, increased productivity, and company profits. However, these ideas are not fully developed or supported, which places the response in the mid-range for this criterion. For instance, the point about reducing mental stress and increasing productivity is mentioned quickly without being extended through clear examples or deeper explanations. Furthermore, the final paragraph attempts to argue that shorter weeks reduce distractions, but the supporting example regarding a colleague using his phone is underdeveloped and slightly contradictory, ultimately limiting the overall depth of the argument. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand on each supporting point with detailed elaboration and robust examples rather than listing multiple ideas superficially.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and clearly signals the writer's stance from the beginning. However, the organization suffers from a lack of clear overall progression, largely because the entire body of the essay is compressed into one massive block of text, with only a brief concluding paragraph following. Cohesive devices are either repetitive or inadequate, with excessive reliance on basic conjunctions like 'and' and 'because' to link clauses together. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'that why they dont have time'. Paragraphing is not used sufficiently and appropriately, as breaking the text into distinct paragraphs for each main idea—such as health, productivity, and workplace focus—would greatly improve the logical flow. To improve, the writer must ensure proper paragraphing is applied and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the central ideas of the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'productivity', 'creativity', and 'responsiblity', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form. For instance, words like 'weeked' instead of weekend, 'theres' instead of there is, and 'responsiblity' contain spelling mistakes. Additionally, there are awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'The working days should be less' instead of fewer, and 'saves worker getting ill'. While these lexical errors do not completely prevent understanding, they cause some difficulty for the reader and reveal a restricted control of word forms and spelling. To achieve a higher score, the student should expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word forms and collocations, and practice accurate spelling of common academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and overly long, run-on compound sentences joined by conjunctions. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to structural breakdowns. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'the Workers have... and they dont get', missing apostrophes in contractions such as 'dont' and 'cant', and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation is also weak, with a general lack of proper periods to separate independent clauses, creating comma splices and breathless sentences like 'Certain amount of rest can also remove there mental stress and increase there productivity and creativity when they join office again which will lead to higher profits...'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer should focus on mastering basic punctuation, reducing run-on sentences, and improving control over complex sentence structures.
