Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been a growing debate about whether working week should be shorter and worker should have longer weekend. While some people believe that working week should be longer, I completely agree with this idea that working week should be shorter and workers should have longer weekend. This essay will explain the main reasons for my postion.
One of the major reason why I agree with this view is that it can help workers to maintain work life balance. This is mainly because usually the weekend is of 2 days in a week and for 5 days workers are on duty hence, when individuals will have longer weekend they can give more time to their families and strengthen their bond. They can be more available for ups and downs of their families. For instance, a worker can go on small trips with their families every weekend and enjoy family time.
An other major reason, is that, they can take time out for themselves to recharge their mind and body. This is mainly because longer weekends allow them to get some personal time and focus on themseleves. Moreover, working more days does not increase productivity if workers lack the focus needed to complete tasks effectively. For instance, a individual can go for sport or other extracircular activies if they have longer weekend to work on their mind and health. Consequently, longer weekends can stimulate their mind and body and make them focus efficently on work.
In conclusion, I agree with this view that weekends should be longer because it help in creating balance in life and also do work productively with focus.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, which is a strong characteristic of the band above. The introduction clearly states that the writer completely agrees with having a shorter working week and longer weekend. The body paragraphs present relevant ideas regarding work-life balance and mental recovery, fulfilling the core requirements. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed, showing elements typical of the current band level. For instance, the point about productivity is introduced with a good premise that working more days does not increase output, but the explanation is somewhat repetitive and relies on a very simple example about sports and extracurricular activities rather than fully exploring the broader economic or psychological implications. Overall, the main position is sustained, but deeper extension of supporting arguments is needed to reach the next level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion appropriately. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, showing a progression from family-oriented benefits to personal mental well-being. However, the cohesion can feel somewhat mechanical and repetitive at times. Phrases such as 'One of the major reason why I agree with this view is that...' and 'An other major reason, is that, they can...' are formulaic and slightly overused. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'focus on themseleves' where the pronoun lacks a strong antecedent link. While logical relationships between sentences are generally maintained, the heavy reliance on predictable transition structures prevents the cohesion from feeling fully fluid and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's central arguments, but it demonstrates limitations in range and precision. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'extracircular' (spelled incorrectly as 'extracircular' instead of 'extracurricular') and 'efficiency', but these attempts are accompanied by notable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word forms. For instance, the student writes 'working week' without necessary articles ('the working week') and uses singular forms where plurals are required, such as 'worker should have longer weekend'. There are also spelling slips like 'postion' and 'themseleves'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, the repeated reliance on basic terms and the presence of word-choice and spelling inaccuracies keep the lexical score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'This is mainly because usually the weekend is of 2 days in a week and for 5 days workers are on duty hence, when individuals will have longer weekend they can give more time to their families...'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding articles, subject-verb agreement, and clause punctuation. For example, missing articles are common ('whether working week should be shorter and worker should have longer weekend'), and comma splices or run-on structures appear, such as linking clauses with 'hence' without proper punctuation. Furthermore, verb tense errors occur, such as the unnecessary use of the future tense in subordinate clauses ('when individuals will have longer weekend'). These errors show that while complex structures are attempted, grammatical control is still inconsistent.
