Student answer (Band 6.0)

Weekend are the days that every one desire now because of working all week they need weekend to recharge themselves, so they can be fresh and focused when they return to their workplace. From few years it has become a topic of discussion whether the working week should be shorter for workers and should be given more time to relax and enjoyment or it should remain same. This essay will cover both perspective and will also share my opinion of why i agree with the statement.

on one hand, people believe that longer weekend will affect the working capability of the workers as they will focus less on their work. This will have a big impact on businesses which are in need of workers every time for example:- Hospitals, Transport services. People are in need of these services every time so if workers are having long weekends these services will crash. For eg if someone visited hospital and cant get treatment on time because of absence of workers, a great amount of harm could be done in this situation.

on the other hand, i agree with workers having longer weekend because they are human beings who need rest they are not like robots who can work 24*7 they have family to take care of they have household chores. People who have small babies at home they need more time so they can be with their family and enjoy good time together. It reduces the mental stress of people and if worker is enjoying his work without any pressure it will automatically good for the businesses they are working for.

In conclusion, I agree with workers having more time for themselves and for their families in meantime we can make some certain laws for essential services like hospitals and transport services so whenever people in need for that they can get services.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the statement that workers should have a shorter working week and a longer weekend. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the benefits of rest for mental health and family life, as well as the counter-argument concerning essential services like hospitals. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended. For example, the point about reducing mental stress and benefiting businesses is introduced in the third body paragraph but lacks deeper elaboration or specific examples. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to provide more fully developed support and deeper exploration for each main idea presented.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing both perspectives, and a concluding summary. The progression of ideas is generally logical, starting with an introduction of the topic and the writer's stance, followed by the opposing view, the supporting arguments, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transitions between and within sentences rely on basic cohesive devices like 'on one hand', 'on the other hand', and 'for eg', and some referencing is imprecise, such as using 'in meantime we can make some certain laws'. Paragraphing is used, but transitions lack subtlety. To progress further, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother links between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts and attempting some less common items such as 'recharge themselves', 'working capability', and 'essential services'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text. Examples include writing 'Weekend are the days that every one desire' instead of 'Weekends are the days that everyone desires', using 'enjoyment' where an adjective like 'enjoyable' or a verb form is needed, and writing 'for eg' and lowercase 'on' at the beginning of sentences. These lexical errors and awkward collocations reflect a limited range and occasional inaccuracies that prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at complex structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('visit hospital', 'in need of services'), capitalization errors ('on one hand', 'on the other hand'), run-on structures or comma splices ('because they are human beings who need rest they are not like robots'), and prepositional slips. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication, and the meaning remains clear. To move up to the next level, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures and punctuation.
