Student answer (Band 6.0)
Workers should have a longer weekend than working week. I agree with this statement because longer weekend can reduce work stress and help workers to give more concentration on their works.
One major advantage of longer weekend is that the employees can reduce their stress. Longer weekend can give them proper time to be relaxed. In addition, employees can spend more quality time with their family. For example, employees can plan a better weekend for their family if they get more days in weekend. As a result it may help them to focus more in their workplaces.
However, Longer weekend means a shorter working week. Employees may have less time for their work . They may need to finish the same amount of work within a short period. It may make their life more stressful than before. Similarly, employees may find difficulty in their work load management. For example, previously employees may have five days to finish their weekly work while they may get three to four days to complete his same amount of work because of a longer weekend. As a result it may make their life frustrating.
In my opinion longer weekend can have positive impact on employee's life only if the work load can be reduced. Without reducing work load longer weekend may create frustrated situation for employees.
In conclusion, Longer weekend has positive effects on a employee's life. It may help them to be more focused and dedicated in their work. While longer weekend may reduce time for their works.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the statement that a longer weekend is beneficial. Relevant ideas are presented, such as reduced stress and better family time, but some of these ideas are under-developed or repetitive. For instance, the discussion on work-load management touches on an important counter-argument, but the explanation remains somewhat generalized rather than fully extended with deeper analysis or concrete societal examples. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all main ideas with more comprehensive explanations and thoroughly supported arguments throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, showing a clear progression from the introduction through body paragraphs discussing advantages and drawbacks, to a concluding thought. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, such as the benefits and drawbacks of a shorter working week. Cohesive devices are generally present, though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, as seen with the frequent use of 'longer weekend' at the beginning of sentences. To achieve a higher level, the writer could use a wider and more sophisticated range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and concepts related to employment and stress, such as 'work load management' and 'positive impact'. However, there are notable limitations and errors in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'give more concentration on their works' instead of 'focus on their work', and 'create frustrated situation' instead of 'frustrating situations'. While these lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score. To move up, the student needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice, better control of collocations, and a more varied lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully employing subordinate clauses such as 'if they get more days in weekend'. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, including missing articles ('a employee's life', 'shorter working week'), pluralisation issues ('work load', 'time for their works'), and minor pronoun inconsistencies ('complete his same amount of work'). These errors occur alongside correct structures and rarely impede communication. To reach a higher standard, the writer should aim to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over articles and plural forms.
