Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, there is a debate across borders that the number of working days in a week should be reduced and more days should be included in the weekends. I strongly disagrees with this viewpoint because of several reasons which I will discuss in this essay.

Firstly, shorter working week can reduce productivity in various sectors. People will have to do a lot of work in a short span of time. They will have to handle meetings, task completions and other operations simaltaneously. This will reduce the quality of the work because people will have no time to reconsider the mistakes and make improvements due to tight shedules and eventually this will reduce productivity and work life balance.

Secondly, longer weekends can put most of the people in their comfort zone and they might become less effective and less efficient in the long run. In the weekends, most individuals spend a majority of their time in doing adventurous activities or the things they love to do. For example, they go to mountains or beaches and love to spend time there with their families. This comfortness can go against sometimes, people might get bored at work and they start to wait eagerly for the weekend. Hence, there is a definite conflict of interest between work and enjoyment.

In conclusion, the longer weekends add no value to work and it must not be allowed. From my perspective, more days in a week give you a margin to do thorough research and make improvements where needed. You can also maintain a good work life balance by giving more time to your work. This helps in tackling pressure situation and improves productivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree with shortening the working week, and the conclusion restates that view. You give two relevant reasons—compressed schedules may reduce work quality, and longer weekends may affect motivation—and support the second with examples of leisure activities. However, the first point is not fully explained: you assert that fewer days would reduce productivity, but do not consider whether workers could maintain output through better organisation or explain which sectors would be most affected. The claim that longer weekends create a “definite conflict of interest” is also unclear and needs a more precise explanation. Develop each reason with a clearer cause-and-effect chain and a specific example to make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. The main ideas generally progress in a logical order, and examples are placed alongside the point they illustrate. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however, because the paragraphs rely heavily on basic sequencing and repeated links such as “This” and “Hence.” Some connections are also difficult to follow: “This comfortness can go against sometimes” does not clearly show how leisure time leads to reduced effectiveness at work. Use more precise referencing and explain the links between claims. A more focused conclusion would also avoid introducing the idea that more working days allow “thorough research,” which has not been developed earlier.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss work and leisure, including “productivity,” “operations,” “reconsider,” and “work-life balance.” These choices help communicate the main argument, and you attempt some less common expressions. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or unnatural, as in “comfortness,” “task completions,” “across borders,” and “tackling pressure situation.” There are also spelling errors such as “simaltaneously” and “shedules.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and fluency. Aim to use familiar, accurate collocations rather than forcing uncommon wording, and proofread spelling. For example, “complete tasks” and “under pressure” would sound more natural in this context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a conditional structure in “people might get bored at work.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I strongly disagrees” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “shorter working week can reduce productivity” needs an article. In “people might get bored at work and they start to wait,” the verb forms are not consistent; “might start waiting” would fit the sentence. The final sentence also needs a plural noun in “pressure situation.” Continue practising agreement, articles, and consistent verb forms, and check punctuation where long sentences join several ideas.
