Student answer (Band 6.5)
The working week should be shorter than five days and the employees should have longer weekends. I agree with this view because this will allow the employees to unwind and spend time with their families.
The usual working hours worldwide are from 9 to 5 in most cases. This 9 to 5 occasionally turns into a 7 to 7 instead. After almost 12 hours, the employees are too exhausted to spend time with their family and friends. Moreover, most of their weekends are occupied with doing chores hence, longer weekends would provide an opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family which is essential. Longer weekends will therefore, foster relationships among people as a they require time and effort. Workers will also get to spend quality time with their children. For example, most of the working parents leave their children at day care when they are at work. They pick their children up in the evening and barely get to spend a few hours with them. Hence, longer weekends would allow parents to spend time with their children at home.
Longer weekends would give workers ample time to relax and pursue their hobbies. With busy schedules, the employees are usually occupied with work and house chores that they barely get anytime for themselves. However, longer weekends will them time to focus on their well-being and pursue their interests and hobbies. For example, people can enroll into various classes like painting, swimming, or join the gym. Thus, they will get to have a life after work where they can pursue activities that were of interest to them but they were unable to do them due to their busy schedules. For example, people who like to travel will now have a chance to visit places.
In conclusion, I believe that longer weekends will allow the workers to maintain a healthy work-life balance and pursue their interests and hobbies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the opening and conclusion: you agree that workers should have longer weekends. You address the task with two relevant reasons—more time for family and more opportunity to rest and pursue interests—and support them with examples about childcare, hobbies and travel. This gives the response a clear, relevant argument. However, the discussion focuses mainly on the benefits of longer weekends and says little about the practical implications of shortening the working week, such as how work could be reorganised or whether there might be drawbacks. Some claims, including that longer weekends will foster relationships, are asserted rather broadly. Developing this point with a more specific explanation would make the argument more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop separate benefits, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and examples follow the points they illustrate. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” to guide the reader. At times, however, the connections feel repetitive or mechanical: “For example” appears several times, and “Hence” and “Thus” often announce conclusions rather than showing a more precise relationship between ideas. The second body paragraph also repeats the idea of pursuing hobbies in several forms. Varying transitions and combining related sentences would make the progression smoother and more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss work, family life and leisure, including “unwind,” “quality time,” “well-being,” and “work-life balance.” These choices make your meaning clear, and some phrases show an attempt to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated uses of “spend time,” “busy schedules,” and “pursue interests and hobbies.” There are also awkward word choices or collocations, such as “get anytime for themselves” and “enroll into various classes.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to use more varied, accurate collocations and avoid repeating the same key phrases across paragraphs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses and cause-and-effect structures, as in “After almost 12 hours, the employees are too exhausted to spend time with their family and friends.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the errors rarely obstruct understanding. Some grammatical slips remain, however: “as a they require” contains an unnecessary article, “longer weekends will them time” is missing a verb, and “they were unable to do them” has an unclear pronoun reference. There are also inconsistencies in number, such as “their family” after plural “employees.” Check sentence completeness, agreement and pronoun references during revision. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen your control.
