Student answer (Band 6.5)

The significance of rest alongside work is undeniable. It is argued by some that working days should be reduced and duration of weekend should be increased. From my perspective, although rest at the end of week is very crusial to reset yourself mentally and physically and improves the overall sharpness of brain, but the drawbacks of this approach outweigh its benefits.

On the one hand, the primary benefits of this appraoch is that it will assist people to reset them from the hectic routine and will improve their mental ability. As human brain get tired after working for a long time so it needs rest and time to recover. In this modern era, the jobs are so demanding that people have to work overtime to complete their projects on time. So, this development will ameliorate their mental stability and help them to not get exausted. For instance, the chief reason of Finland to be the most happiest country is that general populace only work four days. Consequently, their health improves significantly and also their mental stability.

On the other hand, the drawbacks includes productivity dip and economic looses. If weekend increases from two days to four than individuals will loose consistancy and eventually results in dip in their productivity. They will most likely spend their long weekend partying with folks or going on some trip which will eventually decrease the focus level of them. In addition, this approach will also result in big economic loose for nation as the factories and industries will close more than often which results in heavy financial loss for state government. For example, individuals will get salery of whole month but will work for only half of the month.

In conclusion, despite of benefits related to mental and physical health, I believe it is a negative approach overall as it will result in heavy economic losses as well as decrease in productivity of workers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear throughout: you acknowledge the benefits of a longer weekend but argue that economic losses and reduced productivity outweigh them. Both sides are relevantly addressed, and the Finland example and the discussion of factories provide support. The main limitation is that some claims are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that longer weekends would make workers lose consistency and focus needs a clearer link to how this would affect output; similarly, the salary example does not fully establish the scale of national economic losses. Develop these points with more precise reasoning or a concrete, credible example to make the support more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs contrast benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion restates your position. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, ideas generally move from a claim to an explanation and example. However, some links are mechanical or unclear: “Consequently” introduces a result that is not fully established, and the final salary example is not clearly connected to the preceding claim about national losses. Use more precise referencing and explain the relationship between each example and its point, rather than relying mainly on standard transition phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “hectic routine,” “mental stability,” “productivity,” and “financial loss.” There are also attempts at less common vocabulary, such as “ameliorate,” though it is not a natural fit for improving mental stability in this context. Some word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision: “economic looses,” “loose consistancy,” “most happiest,” and “salery” should be corrected. “Reset them” is also an awkward expression. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than choosing a more formal word simply because it sounds advanced; this will make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses beginning “As human brain gets tired” and conditional reasoning with “If weekend increases…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the primary benefits … is” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the drawbacks includes” has the same issue. The opening sentence of your position also combines “although” with “but,” creating a faulty structure. Other examples include “If weekend increases from two days to four” and “which results in” after a plural subject. Check agreement, articles, and clause construction, and proofread longer sentences to ensure each clause is grammatically complete.
