Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that workers should have a longer weekends and they should have shorter working week. I completely agree with this view because having a shorter working period helps them to spent more time with their families and focus on honing their skills more.

First of all, I believe that having a healthy relationship with your famliy and loved ones matter more. Even if someone work more hours to earn money, they cannot guarantee a healthy relationship with their families and loved ones which will harm their social life resulting in family and mental problems. For instance, if a person is always working and barely going to home to see their loved ones, they will have the money but not a meaningful relation with their famiy as the saying says money cannot buy happiness. That's why it's more important to reduce working period so that workers have time to check on their family.

Secondly, if the working period is reduced , the workers will have more time to focus on themselves and build their skills to next level. This will help them to upgrade themselves which will help them in building their careers. For example, if a student has more weekends than usual, they can simply focus on whatever hobby they like and they might be able to learn what they are interested on which will help them to know who they are and what they like to do. Thus, having a shorter working period outweight its drawback.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that having longer weekends is usually more benefical than having a shorter weekends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and the two main reasons, family relationships and personal development, are relevant to the question. You also support them with examples and maintain your position in the conclusion. This meets the task well overall. However, the second example shifts to a student rather than a worker, so it does not fully demonstrate how a shorter working week benefits employees. The point about developing skills is also asserted more than explained: specify which skills workers could build and how this might improve their work or wellbeing. Developing both reasons with more directly relevant evidence would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “First of all” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and examples follow the claims they are intended to support. Some linking is mechanical, however, with repeated transitions such as “For instance,” “For example,” and “Thus.” There are also places where the connection between ideas could be clearer: the student example does not directly illustrate workers’ skill development, and the conclusion repeats the main position without drawing the two arguments together. Use more precise referencing and vary how you connect claims, explanations, and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including phrases such as “meaningful relation,” “social life,” and “build their skills.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “honing their skills,” although the surrounding phrasing is not always natural. Noticeable spelling and word-choice errors include “famliy,” “benefical,” and “outweight,” while expressions such as “upgrade themselves” and “learn what they are interested on” are awkward or imprecise. These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “Even if someone work more hours…” and a relative clause in “which will harm their social life.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, particularly subject–verb agreement and number: “someone work” should be “someone works,” and “a healthy relationship … matter” should be “matters.” There are also errors in articles and plural forms, as in “a shorter working week” versus “a shorter weekends,” and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Review agreement and singular/plural patterns, then proofread sentence boundaries and punctuation to improve control.
