Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a thought today which is very famous that working days of the week should be shorter as they are now and weekend should should be extended for relaxment and refreshment.

When we thinks as an owner of company and as an government entity it looks very hard to extend the weekend and lower the working days in contrast, when we thinks as a worker or employee we always find ways to take holidays. Normally, countries have five days of working and two days for rests but some advanced countries like Finland and Norway have three days for rest during the whole week.

On the other hand, there are countries like Japan and China in which average person works 16 hours a day and literally these people have no meaning of weekend. In my prospective, its really important for individuals to take rest , relaxment and enjoyment to perform better if you works all the days of week and no time for freshing your mind , your body will be exhausted and you cannot perform your role correctly.

Furthermore, if a worker has long weekend he can give time to his family he can rest more and refresh his mind which will be proven beneficial to company becaus always a fresh mind can do its task properly but we should also keep in mind that if we have an extended weekend then we have to do work of seven days in 3 or 4 days or upto which extent weekend is extended.

In a nutshell, i strongly beleive that when a person has fresh mind , relax body and jolly mood he can perform better than a worker who has no time to rest and his mind is exhausted. The qualities i mentioned can only come if we give enough to our employers in form of weekends. So weekend should extended.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you support a shorter working week, and the conclusion reinforces this view. You address relevant reasons, especially that rest can help workers perform better and spend time with family. The explanation that an exhausted worker may not perform well is pertinent, and you also acknowledge a practical concern: employees might need to complete the same workload in fewer days. This covers the task well, but some points are asserted rather than developed. For example, the references to Finland, Norway, Japan and China are not explained or connected with evidence, and the workload concern is left unresolved. To strengthen the response further, develop one or two examples and explain how employers could manage the shorter week.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting contrasting considerations and benefits, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “In a nutshell” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven: the comparison between employers and workers, for instance, moves quickly into country examples without showing how they support the argument. Some sentences contain several ideas joined together, making relationships between points less clear. Use clearer topic sentences and divide long sentences so each paragraph develops one main idea. More precise referencing would also help readers follow what “these people” and “the qualities I mentioned” refer to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “exhausted,” “perform better,” “extended weekend,” and “fresh mind,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts to express less basic concepts, such as the effect of rest on productivity. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are unnatural or inaccurate, which sometimes makes the reader pause. Examples include “relaxment,” “freshing your mind,” “in my prospective,” and “jolly mood.” Spelling errors such as “beleive” and “becaus” also reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable set of collocations for work, rest and productivity, and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional reasoning in “if a worker has long weekend he can give time to his family” and a contrast between workers and employers. However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors recur in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. For example, “When we thinks” should use a plural subject with “think,” while “if you works” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening also contains a repeated “should,” and several long sentences need clearer punctuation or separation. These problems can make parts of the argument difficult to follow. Practise checking each clause for a clear subject and correctly matched verb, then use shorter sentences where needed.
