Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is widely argued that the working weekdays must be reduced for the employees and they should have a longer weekend. I firmly agree with this view, as workers also need enough time for their personal life and to take the sufficient amount of rest rather than stressing out in the longer working hours of an ordinary day. These reasons play a pivotal role in supporting this perspective.

One compelling reason why I support this view is that each and every individual has their personal life and one must balance their professional and personal life .Consequently, in order to give time to their loved one's and also managing their workplace's stress could be detrimental for their health as they can also suffer from mental illness and some disorders due to the over stressing because of sufficient amount of work load.

Another significant reason is that human needs to take rest for their overall well-beings improvement and need time to take care of themselves and rest down by going away from the

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you firmly agree that workers should have a shorter working week and longer weekend. You also give relevant reasons, including time for personal relationships and the need for rest. However, the response addresses the task only partially because the ideas are not sufficiently explained or supported with specific examples. The second body paragraph is unfinished, ending with “by going away from the”, so it does not develop its point. The response also contains 171 words, below the required 250, which limits how fully you can explain your arguments. To strengthen the response, complete both body paragraphs, explain how reduced hours would benefit workers, and add a relevant example before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic overall structure: an introduction states your view, followed by paragraphs presenting two reasons. Linking phrases such as “One compelling reason” and “Another significant reason” help signal the progression. However, the development is difficult to follow in places because the first body paragraph combines several ideas in one long sentence, and the second paragraph stops mid-sentence. The conclusion is also absent, so the argument has no clear ending. Some connections are unclear, particularly the relationship between balancing personal and professional life and the claim that workplace stress could harm health. Use separate sentences to explain each point, connect examples directly to the claims they support, and finish with a brief conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “personal life,” “professional,” “mental illness,” and “stress,” and phrases such as “One compelling reason” show an attempt to vary expression. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, which makes parts of the argument harder to understand. For example, “take the sufficient amount of rest” and “rest down” are not natural expressions in this context, while “over stressing” and “work load” are awkwardly formed. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “get enough rest,” “unwind,” “excessive stress,” and “heavy workload.” More precise vocabulary would help you explain the effects of a shorter working week clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “as workers also need…” and a sentence starting “Consequently, in order to…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “each and every individual has their personal life and one must balance” shifts between pronouns, while “human needs” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “Consequently” is also incomplete or poorly connected to its main clause, and the final sentence is unfinished. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas with accurate clauses. Check agreement, sentence boundaries, and spacing around punctuation during revision.
