The working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend.

Student answer (Band 6.0)
While I agree with the fact that there should be work-life balance between personal and professional life, I disagree with the opinion that weekends should be longer by reducing the working week. There is great amount of importance of work in life as it makes a person active, at the same time it gives aim to a person. Five days of the week are enough for the job and making weekends longer may bring complacency and leniency in the life of a person.
Having shorter working week has more chance to make a person lazy, complacent and lenient. Work gives aim and motivation to a person. A person may become less focused and take things related to work for granted instead of doing it honestly. Less working time may make a person take impulsive decisions and affect the quality of the work. While it affects the corporates and bosses, this habit may also affect the employee in his professional career later as well.
Two days of the weekend are something that all employees look forward to after the working week. In India specially, there is more pressure on the employee and lesser importance on the work-life balance. To increase this importance, corporates can look to imply alternative options like work from home, increase in number of leaves per year instead of making weekends longer. Making weekends longer may affect the atitude of the emplyee in negative effect and also bring disturbance in the schedule of the corporates.
Overall, the danger of incoporating leniency and complacency to empoyees and making aimless and careless work a habit of them is why I think working week should be five days, while work from home and other alternatives should be incorporated to bring more work-life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you disagree with shortening the working week, while supporting other ways to improve work-life balance. You address the main question and give relevant reasons, including possible effects on focus and work quality, as well as alternatives such as working from home and additional leave. These points meet the task well, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that shorter hours could lead to “impulsive decisions” needs a clearer link or a specific example. The reference to pressure on employees in India is relevant, but its connection to your proposed alternatives could be developed further. More explanation and concrete support for these ideas would make the argument more fully extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons and alternatives, and the conclusion restates your position. The ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “While,” “To increase this importance,” and “Overall” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “While it affects the corporates and bosses” does not clearly show how the preceding point relates to the next one, and the final sentence combines several ideas without a smooth progression. The repeated references to complacency and leniency also make the argument feel somewhat circular. Clarify links between claims and vary how you develop each paragraph to strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “work-life balance,” “professional career,” “impulsive decisions,” and “alternative options,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at less common terms such as “complacency” and “incorporating.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision. Phrases such as “there is great amount of importance of work,” “imply alternative options,” and “bring disturbance in the schedule” are not natural in this context. Several spelling errors, including “atitude,” “emplyee,” and “incoporating,” also reduce control. Aim for accurate, natural combinations of words and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “While” and “as,” and most of the message remains clear. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “there should be work-life balance” needs an article, while “Five days of the week are enough for the job” has an awkward grammatical construction. In “Having shorter working week has more chance,” the noun phrase and sentence structure are not well controlled. The final sentence is also difficult to follow because several ideas are joined into one long structure. Practise accurate articles and sentence construction, and divide complex points into clearer sentences while retaining a range of structures.
