Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people think that the working schedule should be minimised and employees should enjoy longer weekend. I strongly agree with them due to improvement in productivity and boostup of moral of workers.

One of the main reasons for my approval is boosting moral of workers. This is due to the fact when employees have minimised working day, they can enjoy their weekend with family and friends, which provide them satisfaction and pleasure. Moreover, workers need more time for rest because long working shifts may cause health and mental issues to them which create burden of work on them. For example, in the factories where employess perform heavey tasks like loading weight from one place to another, need more time for rest, if they get longer weekend, it would be motivate them and increase sense of belongingness.

Another reason for my agreement is improving productivity. This is because if workers are constantly working for long shifts, they feel exhaused and are not able to concentrate on job, which affects efficiency and effectiveness. As a result, when they have longer weekend, they get sufficient rest and likely to return on work with motivation and energy which increase their productivity. For instance, companies which have introdcued the four day working plan, found that workers are more inspired and efficient to perform their work in an effective manner.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that working day should be shorter because of the reasons mentioned above. If this trend countinues, it is likely to result in work life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give two relevant reasons—workers’ wellbeing and productivity—and support them with examples involving physically demanding factory work and companies adopting a four-day week. This covers the task well. However, some points are more fully explained than others: the factory example links rest to motivation, but the effect of a shorter working week on health could be explained more precisely. The four-day-week example is also asserted rather than supported with a specific outcome. To strengthen the response, develop each example with a clearer explanation of how a shorter week produces the claimed benefit, and briefly address how employers might manage reduced working time.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Topic sentences such as “One of the main reasons” and “Another reason” make the progression easy to follow, while examples are placed in the relevant paragraphs. Cohesive devices including “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “For instance” help connect ideas, although the repeated reason-led pattern can feel somewhat mechanical. Some links within sentences are less clear—for example, the factory example moves from demanding tasks to longer weekends and motivation without fully spelling out the connection. Use more varied transitions and make cause-and-effect links explicit to achieve smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “productivity,” “efficiency,” “concentrate,” and “work-life balance,” and you attempt some less common expressions such as “sense of belongingness.” However, noticeable word-choice, collocation, word-form, and spelling problems limit precision. Examples include “boostup of moral,” “minimised working day,” “heavey tasks,” and “exhaused”; these can make the reader pause, even though the main ideas remain understandable. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “loading weight” and “return on work.” Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking spelling and word forms. Prefer straightforward, natural expressions over ambitious phrases that do not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures: “if workers are constantly working for long shifts…” and “when they have longer weekend…”. This gives the response some variety, and the overall meaning is generally clear. However, some grammatical errors recur in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “longer weekend” needs an article or plural form, “which provide them satisfaction” has an agreement problem, and “it would be motivate them” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “This is due to the fact when…” also needs a clearer grammatical link. Review article use, subject–verb agreement, and verb patterns, then proofread complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly connected.
