Student answer (Band 5.5)
Most of the workers,in this contemporary social landscape, have to work in such a continuous way that weekend donot seems enough for them to take proper rest. They believe that working days should be reduced within a week so that they might have a chance to spend a longer weekend. While some people support this idea, I firmly disagree with this thought because a longer weekend might reduce the economy of a nation, increase poverty and make workers dull by disturbing their daily routines.
The first and foremost reason why I oppose this thought is the danger of decline in the economy of a country by giving a longer weekend to the employers. For example, if all the industries start to give one extra leave to the workers in a week, there will a huge impact on the production of that sector. This ultimately will effect the economy of that industry and the nation as well. Secondly, there are many employers who run their families on the money which they get on daily basis work. If a particular day of week is off, they may not be able to run their familes. Thus this practice will bring poverty in a country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you disagree with a shorter working week, and you give relevant reasons concerning national production and workers’ income. The example of industries losing production helps explain the economic concern. However, the response addresses the task only partially because the reasons are briefly stated and not fully supported; for instance, the claim that an extra day off would cause poverty needs explanation of how workers’ pay or employment would be affected. The point about workers becoming “dull” is introduced in the opening but not developed in the body. The response also contains 201 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough space to develop the argument. Extend each reason with explanation or a specific example, and address all the ideas raised in your introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your position, followed by a paragraph giving reasons against the proposal. Sequencing phrases such as “The first and foremost reason” and “Secondly” make the order of points easy to follow. This supports a coherent overall arrangement. However, the development stops after the second reason, and the paragraph moves quickly from reduced production to family poverty without clearly explaining the connection. The opening also previews workers becoming “dull,” but this idea does not appear later, weakening progression. Use separate, fully developed paragraphs for your main reasons, and connect each claim to its consequence with clear explanation. A conclusion would also help bring the argument to a complete close.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “continuous,” “production,” “economy,” and “daily routines,” and the main ideas remain understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “contemporary social landscape.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “reduce the economy,” “give one extra leave,” and “daily basis work.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “familes” and “donot” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than elaborate wording: for example, describe an effect on economic output, or say that workers receive an additional day off. Proofreading for spelling and choosing familiar collocations carefully would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “because a longer weekend might…” and a conditional example beginning “if all the industries start…”. These attempts show some range, and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “weekend donot seems enough” should use an appropriate auxiliary and agreement, while “there will a huge impact” is missing a verb. The conditional sentence also needs a clearer, grammatically complete result clause. Review subject–verb agreement and auxiliary verbs, and check each sentence for a complete main clause. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument easier to read.
