Student answer (Band 6.0)

The work life balance is a major question these days. Agreeing with the thought that working week should be shorter and workers should have a relaxing long weekend. It could really help people to spend some time with their friends and family and away from the stress of work.

Firstly, the working weeks are from monday to saturday leaving people with only one day to relax. I think there should be a holiday on saturday which can make it a long weekend for people to relax and spend some time with their loved ones. Working the whole week creates a lot of pressure and stress on our mind which can affect our mental health. For instance, My friends dad had a lot of workload which affected their health and led to a mild heart attack. When they consulted a doctor he said to relax and take the work burden off their mind. Well this is just a one case there are seveal cases like this.

Secondly, having a long weekend can help people relax a little bit and get freshen up for the next working week. This could really help people focus on their work comfortably. Additionally it can help them innovate new ideas for their work projects. For example, My company gave a long weekend so it helped me relax and calm myself which resulted in my work the next week and then i got promoted.

To encapsulate, working week should be shorted and workers should have a long weekend which can help them in there mental and physical well being. Additionally giving their thought process a boost which would result great for the company.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that the working week should be shorter, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons—more time to recover from work-related stress and improved focus and creativity. The examples about your friend’s father and your own promotion help make the points concrete. However, the first example is not fully explained, and the claim that a long weekend led to your promotion needs a clearer link to the argument. The conclusion repeats the main view but adds little development. To strengthen the response, explain how a shorter week could be organised and why the benefits would apply more broadly, while developing each example’s relevance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two reason-based body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “To encapsulate” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the points they support. However, some connections are mechanical, and a few references are unclear: in “When they consulted a doctor,” it is not immediately clear who “they” refers to. The final sentence also reads as an added point rather than a complete continuation of the conclusion. Use clearer referencing and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim; vary linking methods so the organisation feels less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your ideas, including “workload,” “mental health,” “work projects,” and “long weekend.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “work burden” and “thought process.” However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “get freshen up,” “shorted,” and “a relaxing long weekend.” Spelling and capitalisation slips such as “seveal” and “monday” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build a bank of common collocations about work and wellbeing, and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “Working the whole week creates a lot of pressure and stress on our mind which can affect our mental health.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. The opening fragment, “Agreeing with the thought that working week should be shorter,” needs a main clause, while “Additionally giving their thought process a boost” is also incomplete. There are errors with articles and agreement, as in “working week” and “their health” when referring to one person, as well as inconsistent capitalisation of “My” and “i.” Practise complete sentence construction and check articles, pronoun reference, and sentence boundaries.
