Student answer (Band 6.5)
I totally agree with the statement that weekend should be longer and weekdays should be shorter, because a long weekend can have better health benefits and good for economy as well.
I believe that longer free days can be beneficial for various health conditions such as reducing stress and anxiety. On short weekends people hardly complete their basic responsibilities, like grocery, doctor appointment, grooming, visiting parents etc, and could not find time to recover from work stress. Also it become hard to manage time and go for outing and different activities like gym and hiking to feel fit, fresh and decrease the anxiety and work pressure. For instance, in our office we have 3 days weekend which is enough to recover from fatigue and laziness cause by all day work on weekdays.
As we discuss it has much health advantage, another reason is, more off days in weekend can benefit the economy as well. More free time means more spending on tourism and leisure, and fewer commutes mean less traffic and pollution. For example, tourist areas such as Murree and Khanpur Dam can get more visitors on long weekends which can be helpful for local business like restaurants and hotels.
In conclusion, I think long weekends at least 3 days has much benefits than keeping it short. It has not only health benefits but also economical advantages as well. Government should design the work hours in such a way that it should be helpful for both individual health and for economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the opening and conclusion: you support a shorter working week and a longer weekend. You address both personal wellbeing and economic effects, and the examples of your office’s three-day weekend and visitors to Murree and Khanpur Dam help make the points relevant. The health argument is extended with practical activities and recovery from work stress. However, the economic point is less fully explained: you mention tourism spending and reduced commuting, but do not develop how a shorter working week would produce these effects or consider possible limitations. To strengthen the response further, explain the links between each claim and the proposed change, and develop the less-supported ideas with specific reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. The sequence from health benefits to economic benefits is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For instance” and “For example” introduce supporting details. Some linking is less natural or repetitive, particularly “As we discuss it has much health advantage,” which does not clearly connect the paragraphs. The conclusion also repeats the benefits rather than drawing the argument together. Use more precise transitions and clearer referencing, and make sure each paragraph’s opening sentence signals its central claim. This would make the organisation feel more fluent and less dependent on formulaic links.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range to discuss wellbeing, work and the economy, including “recover from work stress,” “tourism and leisure,” and “traffic and pollution.” These choices make your main ideas understandable, and some topic-specific vocabulary is appropriate. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “good for economy,” “free days,” and “all day work.” There is also repetition of “benefits” and “weekend,” which limits flexibility. Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check whether words naturally combine; for example, describe the economic effect as a benefit “to the economy” and refer to “additional days off.” These improvements would make your vocabulary more controlled and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “On short weekends…” and a contrast between health and economic reasons. The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include missing or incorrect articles and agreement in “weekend should be longer,” “it become hard,” and “long weekends at least 3 days has much benefits.” The final sentence, “Government should design the work hours in such a way that it should be helpful,” also has an awkward clause structure. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, plural forms and sentence construction. More consistent control of these basics, alongside your attempts at longer sentences, would improve accuracy and readability.
