Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent times, it has been observed that governments often focus to reduce working days rather than maintaining traditional workdays. Although, some people argue that is a waster of productive time, I strongly agree with the idea that societies should shorter working hours instead of conventional timing.

To begin with, one major reason is that, this approach will help people to build stronger relationships with their families. This means that when companies provide shorter working hours to employees, they have sufficient time to invest with their loved ones. For example, if a company offers flexiable working hours for those who want to balance their personal as well as professional lives. Therefore, those who work in this environment experience higher levels of satifaction compared with those who work traditional long hours.

Another fundamental reason is that, focusing on reduced working days offers people to developing various aspects of their mental well-being. This means that, when employees work in effective organisations that focus more on work-life balance, their families see a massive change in their behaviour, especially happiness. For instance, a study is done in a region concluded that 87% of those who took extra days off noticed a 50% decrease in their stress levels, which was significantly lower than before.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that emphasising reduced working days is more benefical than traditional schedules, because it helps in strengthening family relationhips and improve workers different parts of their mental health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you strongly support shorter working weeks, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons—stronger family relationships and improved mental well-being. The examples, including the claim about reduced stress, help illustrate your points. However, the family-life example focuses on flexible hours rather than directly showing how a shorter working week helps, and the study is mentioned without enough context to make its evidence convincing. The conclusion repeats the main reasons but does not add much development. The response is also 8 words below the required minimum, so it does not fully meet the task’s length requirement. Develop each reason with a more direct explanation or a specific, credible example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from family relationships to mental well-being is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Another fundamental reason,” and “In conclusion” make the organisation explicit. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger progression. However, linking is sometimes mechanical: “This means that” is repeated, and “Therefore” does not clearly connect the example to the preceding claim. The conditional example beginning “if a company offers” is also left without a clear main clause, interrupting the flow. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each claim, explanation, and example more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “work-life balance,” “mental well-being,” “productive time,” and “stress levels,” which allows you to discuss the topic clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “fundamental reason” and “emphasising reduced working days.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “waster,” “flexiable,” “satifaction,” “benefical,” and “relationhips” are inaccurate, while “invest with their loved ones” is an unnatural collocation. Some phrases, including “different parts of their mental health,” are vague. Check spelling carefully and choose more natural combinations, such as “spend time with” and “improve mental well-being,” to make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “when” and “especially,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. In the introduction, “societies should shorter working hours” is missing a verb, and “some people argue that is a waster” has an incomplete clause structure. The sentence beginning “For example, if a company offers…” is a conditional clause without a main clause. There are also errors in forms and agreement, as in “offers people to developing” and “it helps … and improve.” Practise building complete sentences and checking verb patterns, especially after “help,” “offer,” and “should.” More accurate complex sentences would strengthen the response.
