Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many countries companies’ employees spend long week in working leaving them with limited time to rest and socialize with their families and friends. I strongly agree that working hours should be short and workers should spend longer weekend to rest this will help their mental and physical health and also increase the productivity of the workers.

Firstly, workers working in short week helps on their mental and physical health. When employees spent much time to rest on weekend it enables them to be physically fit, they can recover from any physical injuries also on the mental health it enables them to clear mind and relax from a stressful week. For Instance, extended weekends help workers to sleep, rest and have time with their families and friends. Workers who work as customer service and healthcare sectors needs time to rest so that they can provide quality work to patients and customers.

Secondly, when workers rest it increased productivity and improve quality work. When employees work for long hours, they get tired and start making mistakes, lose focus and perform tasks inefficiently. On the other hand, workers who work only on four days are able to perform well, perform tasks effectively and are motivated because they have enough time to rest.

In conclusion, companies should come up with a regulation of enabling workers to work on shorter week and have longer weekend to rest in order to perform well and increase productivity. Also resting helps on mental and physical health and have time to socialize with friends and families reducing stress and depression.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree with a shorter working week and longer weekends, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both the benefits to health and the potential effect on productivity, which keeps the response focused on the question. The examples of customer-service and healthcare workers make the health point relevant, while the explanation that tired employees lose focus supports your productivity argument. To strengthen the response further, develop these examples with more specific detail and explain more fully how a shorter week would produce the claimed benefits. The point about socialising is mentioned, but receives less explanation than the two main reasons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion summarises them. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Each paragraph has a recognisable central focus, especially the contrast between fatigue and effective performance in the second body paragraph. To make the flow more natural, connect some ideas within sentences rather than relying mainly on explicit signposts. For example, the first body paragraph moves from physical health to mental health and then to occupational examples; clearer links between these points would improve cohesion. The conclusion also repeats several ideas from the introduction without adding a final implication.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “productivity,” “physically fit,” “recover,” “inefficiently,” and “motivated.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some topic-specific language helps make the argument relevant. However, several phrases are imprecise or awkwardly collocated, such as “spend long week in working,” “clear mind,” and “quality work.” Repetition of “workers,” “rest,” and “weekend” also limits flexibility. Aim to use more natural combinations and vary references to employees and time off. For example, “a stressful week” is effective, but the surrounding phrasing could be made more idiomatic and precise. These improvements would help you express familiar ideas with greater control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “When employees work for long hours, they get tired and start making mistakes” and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” The overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries remain noticeable. For instance, “workers working in short week helps” has an unclear subject and agreement, while “it increased productivity” shifts tense unexpectedly. The opening sentence also runs into the next idea without suitable punctuation, and “this will help” needs clearer separation from the preceding clause. Work on building accurate clauses first, then combine them with conjunctions and punctuation; this will make your range more effective.
