Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent period, people are keen to work for many reasons but there is always an argument whether people should be getting shorter weekdays and to get long weekend. I firmly believe that the employees should get longer off from a week to get some time for themselves as well as their family.

There are different ways people utilize their weekend and one of them can be spending more time with family. Many individuals who has hectic worklife avoid their family although they donot do that intentially however their job chores holds them back. For example an employee who couldn't complete his work at office is working over weekends which reduces his time with family. This can result is disturbing relationships.

On the other hand, longer weekends can be beneficial for a person's mental health. Long working days can result in many negative emotional breakdowns like irritibility, fustration, or aggitation and that could be due to the individuals not getting enough break from continous work. So longer weekend can provide them time for selfcare, or to deal other things in life. For instance, a teacher getting done with the exam week and has to submit result the next week, is now forced to check all the papers as soon as possible which might also ruin her weekend. A person ends up getting stressed.

In conclusion, long weekends raises the time period for working people to get involve with family and reduces the mental pressure which help individual work more mindfully the other day.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support longer weekends because they allow more time with family and can benefit mental health. Both reasons are relevant, and the examples of an employee working at weekends and a teacher marking exam papers help illustrate the pressures you describe. This covers the task well, but the support is uneven: the family example is linked to relationship problems, while the mental-health example mainly describes workload and stress rather than explaining how a shorter working week would address them. The conclusion restates your view but adds little development. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how reducing the working week would produce the benefits, and develop one example with a clearer cause-and-effect link.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate benefits, and a conclusion. The progression from family time to mental health is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For example” and “On the other hand” signal the direction of the discussion. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the second benefit supports the same position, and “So” begins a conclusion to the paragraph without fully connecting the preceding explanation. Some references, such as “that” in “that could be due to,” are not precise. Use transitions that show addition or consequence, and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “hectic worklife,” “mental health,” “emotional breakdowns,” and “mental pressure.” There are also attempts to express more specific concepts, such as work demands affecting family relationships. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “intentially,” “irritibility,” “fustration,” and “aggitation” are misspelled, while “longer off from a week” and “get involve with family” are unnatural expressions. Some wording is also imprecise, such as “negative emotional breakdowns.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations for work, rest, and wellbeing; this will make your ideas sound clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “an employee who couldn't complete his work” and a conditional relationship in “This can result…” These structures help you explain causes and effects, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “Many individuals who has” should use a plural verb, and “long weekends raises” and “which help individual” have agreement problems. The sentence beginning “For instance, a teacher…” also shifts awkwardly between “a teacher” and “her,” and “to deal other things” is missing a grammatical element. Review subject–verb agreement and practise checking each clause for a complete, consistent structure.
