Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the current era of workplaces, workers have to spend five days a week at their job. Some of the companies are also having a policy of 6 working days in a week. It is a great debate that there should be a liberty for employees to have a longer weekend. I strongly agree that there should a rule in favor of employees regarding longer weekends.

One major effect on the employees is having a little quality time which turns out as a frustration and depression. This is because workers are not having enough time to spend on their own preferences and interests. An employee cannot remain consistent in doing one thing. A basic human body and mental stability requires to have something exciting in their life, which helps them remain consistent and feel happy with their job. Organization wants an employee to remain focused to his work in order to get better results and response, which is only possible if an employee is given a longer weekend.

Another problem which is raising major concerns are social gatherings and family ties. An employee working five or six days a week cannot ever get himself a time to spend or to be the part of social activities. It is necessary to understand the importance of social activities and its impact on human mental health. Mental stability requires social happiness and also spending time with loved ones.

To sum up, It is clear that a working person lacks work-life balance, in order to retain mental stability and focused working life, it is necessary to understand the importance of longer weekends and there should be some laws defining the rules which will benefit the daily life of an employee.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: “I strongly agree” that workers should have longer weekends, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give relevant reasons, especially the effects of limited personal time on wellbeing and the difficulty of maintaining family and social connections. These points address the question, but they are not developed equally or in much detail. For example, the first body paragraph explains how free time may improve focus, while the second mainly repeats the importance of social happiness without a specific example or further explanation. The response also focuses on longer weekends more than on shortening the working week. To strengthen the argument, explain how reduced working hours could work in practice and support each reason with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a concluding summary. The progression from individual wellbeing to family and social life is easy to follow, and phrases such as “This is because” and “To sum up” help signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical, and the second paragraph does not develop its central point as fully as the first. References such as “which” in “which helps them remain consistent” could also be clearer about what they refer to. Improve cohesion by linking each claim to its explanation and example, and vary transitions rather than relying mainly on explicit signposting. A more focused topic sentence for each body paragraph would make the argument’s progression stronger.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “frustration,” “mental stability,” “social activities,” and “work-life balance,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “raising major concerns.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “a liberty for employees,” “spend on their own preferences,” and “focused to his work.” Repetition of “employee,” “time,” and “mental stability” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common word partnerships and choose precise expressions: for example, “have time for personal interests” and “remain focused on their work.” This would make your vocabulary sound more natural and help you express the argument with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “This is because…” and “in order to…,” and the overall meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In the introduction, “there should a rule” is missing “be”; “Some of the companies are also having” uses an awkward tense construction; and “An employee cannot remain consistent in doing one thing” has an unclear grammatical relationship between the ideas. There are also agreement and article problems, as in “Another problem … are” and “a time.” The final sentence is long and would be clearer if divided into shorter clauses. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete verb phrases, while continuing to use a mix of sentence forms.
