Student answer (Band 5.5)

Working week generally lasts from 4-6 days and so does weekend varies from 1-3 days with some people have long weekend and short weekdays or vice versa.Workers mostly want a longer weekend to spend more times with their beloved ones and do their pending households.I Agree to that statement to some extent based on working days and work.I would explain here 2 arguments for agreement and 1 argument for disagreement with their explaination.

Firstly Workers typically work hardalmost 8-10 hours at work on weekdays with determination and commitment to complete their daily assigned work or tasks. Left over time is spent at home where they rest and do some neccessary work, however with complete day work they are mostly tired and have less time for personal work or important gatherings so they are unable to do their important work in short span of weekend.

Another reason for longer weekend is that mostly employees work in office time 9 AM to 5 PM so if they have some appointment with a doctor or some government office work they are unable to do that because when they are free from work these offices are also closed so they have to take a leave to cope up with these challenges.

However i partially disagree in some cases when their is lot of work in office like delivery or shipment is near closing dates workers should not have longer weekends because meeting deadlines and completing work is the first priority and no relaxation should be given in these sort of cases.

At the end, I would like to state that workers have a right to have longer weekends when they complete their work on time and have personal work in office hours but only in the cases when assigned tasks are fullfilled dilligently and with care.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear, qualified response: you support longer weekends in general but recognise an exception when urgent deadlines arise. The two supporting points—limited time for family and personal responsibilities, and difficulty attending appointments during office hours—are relevant to the question. However, the discussion remains fairly general, and the deadline example is brief; it does not fully explain why a shorter working week would be unsuitable or how this exception affects your overall view. The opening also spends space describing different week and weekend patterns rather than directly establishing your position. Develop each reason with a specific example and explain more clearly whether you favour a shorter week as a general policy, including how work demands could be managed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterargument and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Another reason” and “However” help readers follow the main direction. Nevertheless, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the first paragraph moves from working hours to household tasks and gatherings without clearly connecting each point to the proposed shorter week. The introduction’s promise of “2 arguments for agreement and 1 argument for disagreement” is also an overly mechanical signpost, and the conclusion largely repeats the position rather than synthesising the discussion. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and make paragraph openings state each central point directly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of task-relevant vocabulary, including “determination and commitment,” “assigned work,” “appointments,” “deadlines” and “priority.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, but several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, which limits the clarity and flexibility of the vocabulary. For example, “do their pending households” does not clearly express household responsibilities, while “complete day work” and “cope up with these challenges” are awkward collocations. Spelling errors such as “neccessary,” “explaination,” “fullfilled” and “dilligently” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “household chores,” “a full day’s work” and “deal with these responsibilities,” and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “when” and “however,” so there is some variety in structure. However, errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Examples include “with some people have long weekend,” “when their is lot of work,” and “workers mostly want a longer weekend to spend more times,” where agreement, articles, verb forms or plural forms are not controlled. Several sentences also run together without appropriate punctuation, particularly in the opening and the paragraph beginning “Another reason.” Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly attached subordinate clause, then check articles, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
