Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that the number of days employees work on should be limited, and workers should be provided a longer weekend. Some believe that this is a negative development for the companies and businesses. Others argue that more time off is better for the work outcome. While the former view has valid points, I completely agree with the latter opinion.

On one hand, some people believe that working five or six days a week is normal, and provides enough time to complete the tasks or meet the goals of a company or business. However, this opinion overlooks the fact that working that many days per week causes fatiuge and burn out, resulting in not meeting goals at all or not on time. For instance, if an employee works six days in one week for 9 hours each day, they will burn out and they won't do their job properly.

On the other hand, others firmly believe that working 3 or 4 days a week is much more effective. This is because the workers get enough rest time, so that they are ready to finish all their work and meet the goals in those 3 or 4 days. This is also a positive development because employees do not burn out or become tired easily, making them ready to work and do their job correctly and properly. To illustrate, if a worker works 4 days per week for 9 or more hours, but gets a 3 day weekend. They will have had enough off time to be prepared for 4 days of consuntrated work. Which in my view is a very positive development.

To conclude, some agrue that working days in a week should decrease for a longer weekend. While other believe this has no merits. From my point of view is a better development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that the working week should be shorter, and the essay addresses both the case for longer working weeks and the benefits of more time off. The examples about a six-day schedule causing fatigue and a four-day schedule allowing recovery are relevant and help explain your view. This meets the task well, but some reasoning remains general: the claim that workers will “finish all their work” in fewer days is asserted rather than supported, and the business concerns introduced in the opening are not explored in much detail. To strengthen the response, explain how shorter weeks could affect productivity or employers, and develop one example with a clearer cause-and-effect link. The position is evident, though the conclusion could restate it more fully and precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. “On one hand” and “On the other hand” make the opposing viewpoints easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the ideas they support. However, some linking is mechanical, and the final paragraph is not fully connected grammatically to the preceding point: “While other believe this has no merits. From my point of view is a better development.” The reference to “the former view” and “the latter opinion” is understandable but less direct than naming the views. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s main claim explicit, using pronouns with clear references, and joining the conclusion’s ideas into a complete, logically connected statement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your argument, including “employees,” “goals,” “burn out,” “effective,” and “development.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “meet the goals” and “concentrated work.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “work,” “days,” and “properly,” and some choices or collocations are inaccurate. “More time off is better for the work outcome” is awkward, while “enough off time” and “finish all their work” are imprecise. Spelling errors in “fatiuge,” “consuntrated,” and “agrue” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of natural expressions for productivity, workload and recovery, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a concession in “While the former view has valid points” and conditional examples beginning “if an employee works…”. Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “From my point of view is a better development” lacks a subject, and “While other believe” has an agreement error and forms an incomplete sentence. The sentence beginning “Which in my view…” is also a fragment, and “if a worker works… They will have had…” shifts awkwardly between conditional and future-perfect forms. Aim to make each sentence complete, maintain consistent verb forms, and review agreement and punctuation, especially when connecting a dependent clause to the main clause.
