Student answer (Band 5.5)
Employees should have more holidays than working days. In this essay, the importance of weekend and working duartion of workers is going to be widely discussed.
It is to be noticed that over the past few years, the concepts and ideology of work has been evolving. The organizational market is facing global change due to advancements of technology such as Artificial intelligence and because of that the pressure of effiecient working has been taken a toll on workers health than ever before. Sometimes the workers are told to work extra hours by their managers so they can compete with the other organizations. Some workers also perform multiple shifts and does not even get rewarded for that.
Due to this increased demand of work the employee spend most of their time in the office and that is affecting their reationships. For example, the workers are not able to give proper time to their family member such as spouse, children, siblings, or parents. Hence, it is becoming difficult for them to manage both their personal and work life because of extensive working time. Therefore, it should be considered that work days must be lesser and long weekend should be acknowledeged as it will give workers an opportunity to enjoy their other acitivities and they can also create better bonds with their families. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You take a relevant position in favour of shorter working weeks, and the discussion of pressure from managers, workers’ health, and family relationships gives the response a clear connection to the question. However, the position is not fully established: the opening says employees should have “more holidays than working days,” which is stronger and less precise than the prompt’s proposal for a shorter week. The effects on family life are explained, but the claim that shorter hours improve performance and the point about rewards are not clearly linked to longer weekends. The conclusion is also cut off before completing the final idea. The response is one word below the required minimum. Develop the main reasons with a specific example and finish with a complete, direct conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Ideas generally move from workplace pressure to its effects on health and family life, and linking expressions such as “Due to this,” “Hence,” and “Therefore” help show relationships. However, the progression is weakened by a long body paragraph that combines family time, the proposed solution, activities, family bonds, and self-esteem without clearly separating or developing these points. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the conclusion begins but does not complete its thought, leaving the essay without a clear final resolution. Use one main idea per paragraph, connect each example directly to that idea, and ensure the final sentence completes the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “advancements of technology,” “multiple shifts,” “self-esteem,” and “personal and work life,” which helps communicate the general argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the concepts and ideology of work.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “working duartion,” “organizational market,” “efficient working has been taken a toll,” and “long weekend should be acknowledged.” Spelling errors such as “effiecient,” “reationships,” and “conclison” are noticeable and sometimes slow the reader. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than elaborate wording: for example, describe “workplace demands” and say that a longer weekend “should be introduced.” Proofreading would also improve accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a cause-and-effect construction beginning “Due to this increased demand of work” and a sentence explaining that workers struggle to manage personal and work life. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in both sentence structure and basic agreement. For example, “Some workers also perform multiple shifts and does not even get rewarded” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the employee spend” also needs agreement. The opening phrase “In this essay … is going to be widely discussed” is awkwardly constructed, and the final sentence is incomplete (“they can perform better a…”). Review agreement, sentence completion, and punctuation around sentence boundaries; then use complex structures only when you can control them accurately.
