Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely acknowledged that the working week ought to be shorter and workers are highly likely to have an extensive weekend. In my opinion, I partially agree with this argument, as reducing working hours and offering extended weekends can boost country's economy overall and also the efficiency of workers. However, giving monthly and yearly bonuses to employees can also increase the productivity and nation's economy.

The primary reason behind this perspective is that if governing bodies give shorter breaks during working week, it will help workers to stay clam and focused during their work. Consequently, it will give opportunities to the labor force to live a healthy lifestyle and improve their overall well-being. Additionally, If policymakers structured working hours effectively and offered extra off during weekends, it would enable industrial workers employed far away from home to visit their families that strengthens family bonds.

On the other hand, if higher authorities provide monthly and yearly stipends to labors, they are highly likely to deal with unexpected circumstances. For example, if blue-collar workers have any medical emergencies or unemployment, these annual bonuses will help them handle with unforeseen situations. Furthermore, when jobholders receive daily compliment and financial rewards for their performances, they work with great dedication, which boosts the exports of the industrially advanced nations and increases its overall economic growth.

In conclusion, although shorter working weeks and extended weekends significantly improve worker's mental and physical health and it also increase the sales of the privileged state. Therefore, lawmakers should implement reduced working hours and performance bounces to ensure balanced and productive workforce.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is stated clearly: you partially agree, and the essay gives relevant reasons connected to workers’ wellbeing, family life and financial incentives. The discussion of shorter hours is supported by points about focus and health, while the example of workers living far from home adds a practical dimension. However, the response does not fully develop the case for a longer weekend, and the shift to bonuses in the second body paragraph makes the argument less focused on the question. The claim that shorter hours can boost the economy is also asserted rather than explained. To strengthen the response, explain how reduced hours and longer weekends affect productivity, and make the role of bonuses clearly secondary to your position on the working week.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “Additionally” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the contrast introduced by “On the other hand” is not fully clear: bonuses are an additional policy rather than a direct counterargument to shorter working weeks. Some connections are also awkward or unclear, as in “extra off during weekends, it would enable…” and “which boosts the exports,” where the reference and cause-and-effect link need clarification. The conclusion repeats the main position but introduces “sales” without developing that idea earlier. Use more precise transitions and ensure each paragraph advances one clearly connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “labor force,” “well-being,” “blue-collar workers,” “unforeseen situations” and “economic growth.” These choices show an attempt to use less common and topic-specific language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “stay clam,” “extra off,” “daily compliment,” “performance bounces” and “increase the sales of the privileged state.” “Stipends” also does not clearly convey the intended meaning of bonuses. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Prefer familiar, accurate collocations, and check spelling and word forms carefully; for example, use “remain calm,” “additional days off,” and “performance bonuses.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional sentences such as “if policymakers structured working hours effectively…” and clauses beginning with “although” and “when.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “boost country's economy” needs an article, “it will give opportunities” has an unclear pronoun reference, and “it also increase” does not agree with its subject. The final sentence also combines clauses awkwardly: “although… and it also increase…” Revise sentences for subject–verb agreement, articles and clear clause structure. Breaking up a few long sentences and checking that each pronoun has an unmistakable reference would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
