Student answer (Band 5.5)

The working week should definitly be shorter and weekends should be longer.

In my opinion the working week should be shorter. It should be maximum of 4 week days because working 5 days a week can be very hectic at times. Most people do not get enough time to rest and they get tired mentally and physically.

Working 5 days a week for almost 6 to 7 hours everyday can also be so exhausting.

Govermnent should look upon this and try to make the weekends longer than the working days in a week.

The weekend is of 2 days and people have so many tasks to do and the weekend goes by in so many chaos, people lose friendships and so many relations get compromised because others think that the person have became arrogant or they are just need space from their friend and family while on the other side it's totally different situation.

As from my experience, i work 9 hours for 5 days in a week and the 2 days of weekend just pass in a blink of eye. Day 1 of weekend just goes by in rotting as I just relax and on the second day i have to fulfill my other commitments and still one is never enough for all that my family time or time with friends mostly gets compromised.

So, i think the weekend should be longer than the working days or rather we should have Monday, Tuesday as working days then Wednesday off day then again Thursday and Friday as woorking days and then the actual weekend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that the working week should be shorter, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including exhaustion, limited time for family and friends, and your own experience of working five nine-hour days. These examples make the response personal and on topic. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that limited weekends cause relationships to be compromised could be linked more clearly to how an extra day would help. The proposed split week at the end is interesting, but its benefits are not explained or compared with a shorter working week. Develop these ideas more fully and address the practical implications to strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an overall structure: it states a position, gives reasons, adds personal experience, and ends with a proposal. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the long sentence about friendships and relationships, where several ideas are joined without clear links. Connectors such as “As from my experience” are awkward, and “So” makes the conclusion feel conversational rather than formally signposted. The final paragraph also introduces a new work schedule without showing how it follows from the earlier argument. Use clearer topic sentences, divide long sentences, and make the relationship between each reason and your conclusion explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “mentally and physically,” “exhausting,” “commitments,” and “compromised.” However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the reader pause. Examples include “the weekend goes by in so many chaos,” “pass in a blink of eye,” and “rotting” to describe resting. There are also spelling errors such as “definitly,” “Govermnent,” and “woorking.” Aim for more precise, formal expressions and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe weekends as “overwhelmed by chores” and say that time “passes in the blink of an eye.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main position using mostly simple sentence patterns, and you attempt longer structures to explain causes and personal experience. However, control is uneven, especially in extended sentences. In “people think that the person have became arrogant,” the subject and verb forms do not agree, and the verb construction is incorrect. The sentence beginning “The weekend is of 2 days” also runs several clauses together, making the relationships between ideas unclear. Other examples include “working 5 days a week for almost 6 to 7 hours everyday,” where the time expression needs clearer grammatical framing, and inconsistent capitalisation of “i.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and punctuation, and break complex ideas into shorter sentences.
