Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's revolving world, working everyday has become a crucial fact that everyone is swamp by the work load. There is considerable amount of pressure on individuals to work day and night without a break. There are some people who believe that there should be a longer break in a weak. From my perspective, I dont truly agree with this because longer weekends could possibly lead to undesire outcomes.

Allowing workers a longer weekends would possibly results negatively for the work place. It gives workers time to be in their comfort zone and they tend to get distracted very easily. Since in many workplaces, officially there are two days in a week saturday's and sunday's which are usually off for the workers. It's enough for the workers to enjoy their lives conveniently and comfortably with their families. For instance, if they are given a task to complete in the weekend, they will not possibly complete that task. It's because of longer breaks, they will deliberately shift that task to the next day. Therefore weekends should be shorter, it will keeps the individuals at the same pace.

Another main reason of contradiction is, sometimes offering a longer break to working individuals make them a lethargic person and less motivated. The person who has spent a long weekend doing nothing makes him lazy. It will also affects the working place. For instance, being home would makes an employer routine disturbed, he will easily get distracted. So, restriction of holidays is crucial for the benefit of working sectors.

In conclusion, I completely disagree with the concept of allowing workers longer weekends because it makes them lethargic and unmotivated. Another main reason is that offering longer weekends to the workers will not help the the working centres to grow and meet the deadlines effectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree with longer weekends, and the conclusion restates this view. You give two relevant reasons—workers may become less focused and less motivated—and include examples involving unfinished tasks and disrupted routines. This addresses the task, but the support is uneven and some claims are not fully explained. For example, the idea that workers would postpone a weekend task does not clearly show why a shorter working week would improve productivity, and the point about employers’ routines is difficult to follow. To strengthen the response, explain the link between each reason and the proposed policy, and consider acknowledging a counterargument, such as the benefits of rest, before explaining why you still disagree.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Therefore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “Since in many workplaces” is a fragment, and “Another main reason of contradiction” does not clearly signal the relationship between the ideas. References such as “It” and “he” are sometimes difficult to connect to a specific person or idea. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s main point explicit, then explaining and illustrating it in a clear sequence; use linking phrases only where they accurately show the relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to work and motivation, including “pressure,” “distracted,” “lethargic,” and “motivated.” These choices show an effort to express more than basic ideas. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make the meaning less precise, such as “revolving world,” “swamp by the work load,” “undesire outcomes,” and “working sectors.” There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “weak” for “week” and “dont.” Some repetition of “longer weekends” and “workers” limits flexibility. Build accuracy by learning common collocations in context—for example, “heavy workload” and “workplace productivity”—and checking spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including clauses introduced by “Since” and “because,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. Examples include “Allowing workers a longer weekends would possibly results,” “it will keeps,” and “It will also affects”; these should use consistent subject–verb forms. “The person who has spent a long weekend doing nothing makes him lazy” also has an unclear structure, while “Since in many workplaces…” is an incomplete sentence. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and main verb, and review agreement and verb forms, especially after modal verbs such as “would” and “will.”
