Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that workers should have long weekend. This essay disagree with this statement because longer weekend can incraese problems for workers because they would face pressure and decrease the productivity of the company and can affect overall balance of society.

Firstly, It can cause many problems for emplyees. Decreasing the number of working days also means reducing the salaries. Which will cause financial problems for them. with longer weekend, workers would have to spend overtime to complete their tasks. Addiotionally, With less working days, there will be pressure to meet deadlines. These factors can effect the various aspects of employees life for instance: family life, social life and mental well-being. For example, recently in Pakistan, new rule is introduced to reduce number of working days to four due to increase in fuel prices. As a result, workers feel more pressurized to meet deadlines and achieve their target.

Secondly, shorter working week can affect the performance of business and cohesion of society. Companies won't be able to complete their target on time which can leads to shortage of required goods in market such as food items. Percentage of profit will decrease and comapnies will struggle to generate enough revenue to afford expenditures. It will also affect small businesses. For example, there are many food stalls near different companies and with shorter working week their sells will decrease eventually leading to difficulty to meet basic necessities.

In conclusion, shorter working week can leads to problems in employees life and affects the performance of company and may disturb societal structure.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you disagree with a shorter working week. You address both workers’ circumstances and effects on businesses and society, and the Pakistan example gives the first point some context. This meets the task well overall. However, some claims are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the link between fewer working days and reduced salaries is not necessarily automatic, and the food-stall example would benefit from clearer evidence of how shorter weeks affect sales or workers’ basic needs. To strengthen the response further, develop each main point with a more precise explanation and ensure examples directly demonstrate the claim they support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around different effects, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always explicit. For example, the move from reduced salaries to overtime and deadline pressure could be explained more smoothly, while “These factors” refers to several points at once. The conclusion also repeats the main claims without adding a concise synthesis. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer referencing, and make the connection between each claim and its supporting example explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “financial problems,” “deadlines,” “mental well-being,” “revenue,” and “basic necessities.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and there are attempts at more formal language. However, the range and control are uneven: several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “cohesion of society,” “complete their target,” and “percentage of profit.” Spelling errors, including “incraese,” “emplyees,” and “comapnies,” are also noticeable and reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe companies as meeting targets, and specify whether you mean profit margins, profits, or revenue.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures and clauses introduced by “because” and “which.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include “This essay disagree,” “Which will cause financial problems” as a sentence fragment, and “shorter working week can leads,” where agreement or verb form is incorrect. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “have long weekend” and “number of working days.” Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, and some sentences join several ideas without clear punctuation. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence to ensure it is complete and correctly punctuated.
