Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that working time should be reduced and large weekend should be implemented. While i partially agree with this opinion because it has many advantages and disadvantes.

On the one hand, When the working week will be reduced it will lead to destruction in the economy of a country. Because people working in many sectors like health, education , planning, and beureaucracy will work for just a short period of time. There will be many cases hang on and face delays. When the judiciary of a country will work for a shorter week, then many cases will face delays and will not be resolved on time. This will cause the downward shift of a country progress. For example, a country Kenya shorter their working days in 2000 and resulted in the downfall of their progress in every sector of a country.

On the other hand, when the working days will be shorter it will give workers and employees a sort of relaxaxtion. When they relax on weekends, they will fully focued on their work and weekends. This kind of effect will give them a new energy to do their work efficiently. For example, China shorter their working days to 4 in 2006 and faced a rapid progress in every sector of their country and now making different kind of things like electric vehichles and solar panels.

In conclusion, I would say that shorter weekends make the indiviuals tired and hectic. But it has benefits too for a country progress. While longer weekends with some protocols also good for a country progress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the proposal and give a clear, if qualified, position: you “partially agree,” noting possible economic disruption as well as benefits for workers. The examples about Kenya and China also show an attempt to support your claims. However, the position becomes less clear in the conclusion, which says shorter weekends make people tired but then supports longer weekends, without clearly stating whether the working week should be shortened. The examples are asserted rather than explained, and the claim that shorter working days caused national progress or decline needs clearer reasoning. Develop the effects on workers and the economy more carefully, and make your final position consistent with the argument throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signalled by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This helps readers identify the main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first moves from several public sectors to the judiciary and then to a broad claim about national progress, while the links between these points are not fully explained. Connectors such as “Because” begin a fragment, and repeated use of “When” makes the development feel mechanical. The conclusion also introduces “some protocols” without explaining what these are. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and ensure each paragraph develops one central idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “economy,” “sectors,” “delays,” “efficiently,” and “progress,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts awkward or unclear, such as “large weekend,” “cases hang on,” and “downward shift of a country progress.” Spelling errors—including “disadvantes,” “beureaucracy,” “relaxaxtion,” and “vehichles”—also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise phrases such as “a longer weekend,” “cases remain unresolved,” and “economic progress.” Proofreading spelling and checking whether words naturally combine will make your argument clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “When” and “Because,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, sentence boundaries, articles, and agreement. For example, “When the working week will be reduced” uses an unsuitable future form in this conditional context, while “Because people working in many sectors…” is not a complete sentence. “China shorter their working days” also lacks a correctly formed verb, and “longer weekends … also good” is missing a verb. Practise forming complete sentences and using consistent conditional patterns, such as “If the working week were reduced, …”. Check each sentence for a subject and finite verb.
