Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely acknowledged that working days per week should be shorter and employees should have long weekend. I firmly believe that shorter working days in a week and longer weekend maintain the mental health and increase the productivity as well as maintain work-life balance.

To begin with, reduction in working days have numerous advantages for employees and employers. It decreases the stress level of workers and increase their productivity after taking a mental rest during weekends. Moreover, it also helps them to maintain work-life balance. They can spend time with their families and in personal activities. As a result, their cognitve and physical health improve and make them more productive to do work efficiently. For example, after spending a longer weekend with some healthy activities worker comeback with new potiential and great ideas.

On the other hand, longer working days per week may cause more stress and reduce the efficiency of workers. Cosequently, employees feel lethargic and stressful after spending a weekend. Another drawback is that they cannot able to balance their personal and professional life which also produce a pressure on them as well as it affects their physical and mental health. For instance, working longer days per week and only one holiday for relaxation and unwind make people furstrated and decline their productivities.

In summary, I strongly agree that shorter working week and longer weekend is more beneficial for employees and employers because it increases productivity of workers and helps them to maintane work-life balance which keep them mentally and physically healthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I firmly believe”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the main issue by explaining how a shorter working week could support mental health, productivity and work–life balance, and you include relevant examples, such as workers returning with “great ideas” after a longer weekend. The contrast with longer working weeks also helps develop your argument. To strengthen the response further, make the examples more specific and explain the causal links in greater depth: for instance, describe a realistic workplace or personal situation showing how an extra day off improves performance. Some claims, such as longer weeks making employees “lethargic,” are asserted rather than fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present supporting points and a contrast, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In summary” make the structure easy to follow. Within paragraphs, ideas generally move from a claim to an explanation or example. However, the repeated use of “Moreover,” “As a result,” and similar explicit links can make the connections feel somewhat formulaic. Some references are also unclear, as in “after spending a weekend,” where it is not immediately clear whether you mean a longer weekend or a regular one. Use a wider range of linking methods and make references more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “productivity,” “work-life balance,” “cognitive and physical health,” and “efficiency,” so your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “mental rest” and “personal and professional life.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling and collocations are noticeable and limit precision: “cognitve,” “potiential,” “furstrated,” and “maintane” are misspelled, while “decline their productivities” and “new potential” are unnatural in context. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “productive” and “longer working days.” Build accuracy with common collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make your vocabulary more natural and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “which” and “after,” and most sentences communicate the intended meaning. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement and verb patterns. For example, “reduction in working days have” should use a singular verb, while “it decreases … and increase” needs parallel agreement. “They cannot able to balance” combines incompatible forms; use either “they cannot balance” or “they are unable to balance.” Articles and plurals also need attention in phrases such as “have long weekend” and “their productivities.” These errors rarely prevent understanding, but proofreading for agreement, articles and sentence patterns would improve control.
