Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that the working period of workers should be reduced and workers should get longer weekend. Although this view has some drawbacks, such as it could increase the workload and financial pressure on businesses, I believe that it has significant advantages in long terms, such as employees would get more free time time which may ultimately increase their intreset at work and creavitivity.
One of the major reason that I support this view is that shortening the working period would be beneficial for physical and mental health of employees. Many employers think that reducing the working hours can affect the production but it has positive effects in long term. For instance, when people work a whole week they might feel exhausted and stressed but providing enough hours for rest can improve the creativity and innovation. A longer weekend would give workers more time to recover from work-related pressures and pursue personal interests. For example, parents could spend more quality time with their children, while others could engage in physical activities or develop new skills. Consequently, employees might return to work feeling more refreshed and motivated.
Another significant benefit of a shorter working week is that it could reduce absenteeism and employee turnover. When workers are constantly under pressure and have insufficient time to rest, they may become dissatisfied with their jobs and eventually seek employment elsewhere. Providing a longer weekend could help employees feel more valued and improve their overall job satisfaction. As a result, companies may be able to retain experienced staff and spend less money on recruiting and training new employees. This would benefit both workers and employers in the long term.
In conclusion, although providing longer weekends can increase the workload and financial pressure on businesses, I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages because it might be beneficial for employees mental and physical health and provides them a better work-life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: despite possible costs to businesses, you support a shorter working week. You address the question with relevant reasons, including improved physical and mental health, greater job satisfaction, and reduced staff turnover. The examples about parents spending time with children and workers developing skills help extend the first argument, while the explanation of recruitment and training costs supports the second. This is a well-focused response with ideas generally developed and supported. To strengthen it further, explain more specifically how a shorter week could be organised or why the benefits would outweigh the stated business pressures; those drawbacks are mentioned but not explored. The conclusion also repeats the main points rather than adding a sharper synthesis.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate benefits, and a conclusion. Ideas progress logically within each paragraph, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Consequently,” and “As a result” make relationships between claims clear. Paragraphing is appropriate and helps the reader follow the argument. Cohesion is generally effective, though some transitions are a little formulaic, and the conclusion largely restates earlier points. You could make the progression more flexible by linking each paragraph’s main claim more explicitly to your overall position and varying how you signal cause and result. For example, the second body paragraph could begin by connecting employee wellbeing to the practical benefits for employers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “work-related pressures,” “employee turnover,” “job satisfaction,” and “retain experienced staff.” These phrases communicate the main ideas clearly, and some choices show an attempt to use more precise workplace language. However, several spelling errors and awkward or repetitive expressions reduce accuracy: “intreset,” “creavitivity,” and “free time time” appear in the introduction, while “in long terms” is not idiomatic. There are also collocation and word-form issues, such as “the working period of workers” and “increase the creativity.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more natural combinations would make the vocabulary more controlled and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although this view has some drawbacks”) and conditional structures such as “When workers are constantly under pressure… they may become dissatisfied.” Most sentences remain understandable, and the longer sentences generally communicate their intended meaning. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “One of the major reason” needs plural agreement, and “employees mental and physical health” needs a possessive form. The opening sentence also needs an article in “get longer weekend,” and “because it might be beneficial … and provides them” has inconsistent verb forms. Review agreement, articles, possessives, and parallel structure to improve accuracy while retaining your range of sentence patterns.
