Student answer (Band 5.5)

It has been a ongoing debate whether the working days should be shorter and workers should spend more time at home, From my perspective i partly agree with both views because many work places requires skilled workers to operate properly while spending time at home will beneficial for mental peace.

To begin with, The answer depends on nature of job many high skilled professions require full attention and focus of workers, Specially at hospitals doctors need to check admitted patients regularly, In consrtuction industry Architect, Engineers and cow workers need regularly check the designs and quality of material otherwise projects can be delayed. So providing vacations in these sectors can have serious consequences.

Furthermore, Many the workplaces should follow a balance approach. i have noticed spending more time at home will helps in building relationships with family which improves mental health. Additionally shorter weeks reduces stress levels and helps in better focus and fewer mistakes at worksite. For example student studying for four days will have higher results then students who doesnot get proper rest.

In conclusion, For digital jobs and offices shorter week is a relastic options, however essential and site based jobs requires, rotating shift so workers can get long weekend while work continues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is identifiable: you partly support shorter working weeks, while recognising that some roles need continuous staffing. The examples of hospital care and construction help explain why a universal reduction could be difficult, and you also mention benefits such as improved family relationships and reduced stress. However, the response does not fully develop the argument: the student example is not clearly connected to workers, and the conclusion introduces rotating shifts without explaining how they would provide longer weekends. The prompt asks whether you agree or disagree, so state your position more directly and support it with fuller, worker-focused examples. The response is also 44 words below the required minimum, limiting the space available to develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally group related points, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are less clear, however: “The answer depends on nature of job” needs to be linked more explicitly to your position, while the move from family relationships to the student example feels abrupt. The conclusion’s reference to rotating shifts is also not prepared for in the body paragraphs. Develop each paragraph around one main claim, then explain how its example supports that claim; use linking phrases to show relationships rather than relying mainly on paragraph-opening signals.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “skilled workers,” “mental health,” “stress levels,” “admitted patients” and “rotating shift.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some more specific terms for different occupations. However, several word choices, collocations and spelling forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “cow workers,” “realstic options,” “spending time at home will beneficial” and “balance approach.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; for example, use “construction workers” and “a balanced approach.” More precise vocabulary for work schedules and staffing would also help you explain your position clearly without relying on broad phrases such as “more time at home.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because many work places requires skilled workers” and a conditional idea beginning “otherwise projects can be delayed.” This shows some range, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, sentence boundaries and capitalisation occur across the response. For instance, “work places requires” should have a plural verb, “will beneficial” needs a verb such as “be,” and “shorter weeks reduces” has a subject–verb agreement error. Several sentences also run together after commas, making the structure harder to follow. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, then use full stops and capital letters to separate complete ideas.
