Student answer (Band 6.0)

Working week in mostly developed countries are longer than usual. Working week should be shorter so workers can have longer weekend. I believe that working week should be made shorter because it helps improves employees health ,recovery and family interaction.

Firstly, supporters of shorter weekend believes that it helps them to extend their business and meat deadlines. Some businesses often run on weekends due to their advertising or delay in manufacturing products.Additionally some business owners have to meet deadlines to deal with client expectations otherwise they will have to face business loss due to which employees need to work sometime overtime and even on weekends. For instance, many companies in the world have crucial meetings on Saturdays and Sundays, which forces workers to invest extra time in work.

On the other hand, I strongly believe that weekends should be made longer because it will be beneficial for people health, recovery and family . Longer weekends allows employees to do their daily jobs more efficiently and effectively. Some employees doesn't attend many important family gatherings, which will felt them leftover. Moreover some employees don't have much time to spend with their family and kids, which weaken their bond. For instance, many employees doesn't seem to be involve in any kind of sports or healthy activity and they get so much tired. Due to that on the next working day they seem lost and have migrane or headache. Longer weekends helps them overcome all these issues.

In conclusion, while shorter weekends are beneficial for businesses and companies to cope with major deadlines and for better business growth, although i believe longer weekends have positive impact on employees health and recovery and good family bond. Therefore, companies should prioritize making weekends longer.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you support a shorter working week because it can improve health, recovery and family relationships. You also acknowledge the business case for longer working weeks, referring to deadlines, client expectations and weekend meetings, so the response addresses both sides of the question. The examples about tired employees and missed family gatherings are relevant, but some claims are broad or not fully explained—for example, how a longer weekend would improve work efficiency, or how companies could manage deadlines with fewer working days. To strengthen the argument further, develop these points with a specific explanation or example and make the comparison between business needs and employee benefits more precise. The clear stance and relevant support are strong, though development is uneven.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from business reasons to employee benefits is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help orient the reader. However, the first body paragraph begins “supporters of shorter weekend,” although it actually presents reasons businesses may need workers to work on weekends; this makes the paragraph’s focus confusing. Some links between sentences are also mechanical, and references such as “Due to that” do not connect the cause and result smoothly. Make each paragraph’s main point explicit, use pronouns and linking phrases with clear references, and vary transitions so the organisation feels more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “deadlines,” “client expectations,” “family gatherings” and “healthy activity.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “business loss” and “crucial meetings.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “extend their business” does not clearly express the intended idea, “invest extra time in work” is unnatural, and “felt them leftover” is unclear. Spelling and word-form errors, including “meat” for “meet” and “migrane,” also affect the impression of control. Build a more reliable range of collocations for work and wellbeing, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “otherwise they will have to face business loss” and a relative clause in “which forces workers to invest extra time in work.” These attempts show some range, but errors in agreement, verb forms and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts of the response awkward. For example, “Working week … are” should use a singular subject and verb, while “Longer weekends allows” and “employees doesn’t attend” have subject–verb agreement errors. The final sentence also combines “while” and “although” in a way that makes its structure faulty. Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and use one clear contrast structure at a time.
