Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued between the workers that there weekends should be extended and the workdays should be short. I disagree with this view because having longer weekends, will completely impact the lifestyle of people and the company may get in loss.

On the one hand, we often see that people usually spend most of there weekends rolling down in their beds and wasting there time on phones. As using excessive smartphones and watching movies sll day, slowly starts resulting in lack of concentration and creativity. In addition, your salary is paid according to your per day work and if people start going only 3 or 4 days, it results in decreased salary. Nowdays it is impossible to run your family or your own self withsuch low wages. Conquently, the pressure on government will also get increased, as large number of funding is done through taxes.Country overall development starts getting drop gradually , resulting in poverty. Moreover, there are certain jobs which cannot afford longer weekends as there need is a necessity. For example people who works in hospitals, fire extinguishers or in army needs to work 24/7 as they play a crucial role in society.

On the other hand, many people believe that longer weekends results in more creativity. As by working continously many people get fed up from there jobs and they need a rest to make a progress. By spending long weekends with your family or enjoying your favourite hobbie helps you in making better projects. As the level of stress get decreased by spending quality of time with family and friends.

All in all, it can be concluded that although longer weekends results in more creativity, having a consistent work clearly outweighs all of them. By keeping a balance between workdays and weekends and doing your job responsibly results in the betterment of the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree with extending the weekend, and the conclusion restates that view. You address both sides by discussing possible effects on pay, essential services, stress and creativity, so the response covers the main question. This meets the task well, and the examples about hospital, fire and military workers help make one point concrete. However, some reasoning is less fully developed: the claim that people waste weekends on phones does not clearly show why a shorter working week would harm them, and the link between reduced working days, lower tax revenue and national poverty needs explanation. To strengthen the response further, develop each main reason with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting reasons against longer weekends, a contrasting paragraph about their benefits, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “All in all” make the overall direction easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated sentence openings using “As” and frequent reliance on “Moreover” or “In addition.” Some connections between ideas are also unclear: the move from weekend phone use to salary, then to government funding, feels abrupt. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between claims explicit. Clearer topic sentences and more precise referencing would help the argument progress more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to work and society, including “lack of concentration,” “quality of time,” “level of stress,” and “crucial role in society.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make parts of the argument less clear. For example, “rolling down in their beds,” “get in loss,” and “make a progress” are not natural expressions in this context. There are also spelling errors such as “Nowdays” and “Conquently.” Build a more precise range of phrases for discussing productivity, income and work-life balance, and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences with subordinate clauses, for example, “although longer weekends results in more creativity…” This shows an effort to vary sentence structure, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in examples such as “people who works” and “longer weekends results”; articles and possessives are also problematic in “there weekends” and “a rest to make a progress.” Some sentences join several ideas without clear punctuation, particularly the section about taxes and development, which makes the relationships harder to follow. Aim to produce shorter, accurately controlled sentences first, then add complex clauses. Check subject–verb agreement, possessive forms, articles and punctuation during revision.
